OK, of course there have been lots of threads on best gun movies, and everyone has their own opinions, and 5 or 10 or 15 of the usual suspects are always in pretty much everyone's top 20 list.
Shooting USA TV show even did a segment on the top ten gun movies ever, based on a poll from AR15.com, with these results:
http://www.shootingusa.com/STORE/TOP_10_GUNFIGHTS/top_10_gunfights.html
(click forward page by page to count up to number 1, from the right hand side there).
But let's not kid ourselves here... There's nothing, but nothing, but NOTHING, that can top the quantity of shooting, quality of shooting, realism of shooting, war, and the good and bad of gunfights than that depicted in the true story of
BLACKHAWK DOWN
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0265086/
Now sure, it made #2 on the arf.com / shooting usa list, and there's no reason why Heat or any other movie cannot be your #1 gun movie, for one reason or another. But it's not because there's more gunfights, better gunfights, or more realistic gunfights.
Blackhawk Down is incredibly heartwrenching because it's true and so realistic, to see what happened to our boys over there in Somalia, but it's also just the baddest shoot em up movie ever made, bar none - Deal with it!
P.S. We Were Soldiers is #2, Saving Private Ryan #3. Sorry, but the non-war gunfighting movies (westerns, Heat, etc.) just cannot even begin to compare to the gunfighting scenes in these modern war movies.
