My Greek returned M1 Garand has arrived.....however I am in Iraq and am unable to check it out. I ordered it in May and was expecting a USGI Springfield Armory M1, but received an e-mail explaining that the USGI's have all been sold out and the only ones available were the Greek re-issues. Either way, I have an M1 again and will never sell this one.
My daughter was kind enough to show it too me on the webcam so I am partially satisfied. But I can't wait to run it through the ringer.

I was in Athens earlier this summer. The guards at their Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were using very shiny looking M-1s. (These are the guys in the little skirts and funny elf shoes, which I guess is the clothing they wore during their war of independence with Turkey.)

I have owned three CMP Garands, including a USGI Service Grade, Greek Issue Rack Grade, and Greek Issue Service Grade.

There was no difference in quality between the USGI and Greek Issue SGs. The metal and wood were essentially equal on both, and if it weren't for the certificate which specifically designated one as "Greek Issue" I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

You'll be happy with it...and if something's wrong the CMP is very good about making it right.

I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but this thing feels alot heavier than the first one I owned back in the '90's. Is there different types of denser wood used on these that would make such a significant weight increase? Also I would like to know about a good source of 10" bayonets and scabards, any help would be great.

I just found out my HRA Greek Service Grade shipped today. Gonna have some fun this weekend. :D

Good luck with yours amprecon!

I think many of your gun accessory and surplus outlets have the 10" bayonet to order, but I think the prices is around $100 these days. Could be wrong. Maybe I am thinking of the longer one.

Didn't get to shoot it, the Shelby County shooting range has been closed down to the public and the only other option is the MSA initiation fee is $400. I'm gonna have to buy some property of my own I can see. I'm back in Iraq now, have to wait another six months, that sucks.

That makes sense. My stock is fine, but the fore end piece is misshaped. It is not in the way of aiming, but it looks odd ball.

Good! I was checking out CMP since everyone kept talking about it. It seems like most of the USGI stuff was not taking further orders but the Greek stuff was still readily available. I thought there was something wrong with them.
