Anyone hear of this? I am curious as to what they are using to replace the led...
Article

I'm also curious as to what it would do to the longevity in storage. Are we about to see the end of military surplus ammo?

Nothing new.

All the major ammo manufactures and bullet makers have offered lead-free bullets and ammo for years.

Most bullet makers use either solid copper, or gliding metal to make the bullets.
While the link you posted didn't mention Barnes bullets, Inc. I think they were a major player in the GI load development. They have had the Lead-free X-bullet available for years now.

As for the end of U.S. GI surplus ammo?
It ended when Bill Clinton was president under executive order.

I can't answer your questions, but I did read the article. I can't tell you how exciting it is to think of environmentally friendly warfare. It just gives me the warm and fuzzys from the tips of my toes to the tip of my nose.
