Greene or ulster county ny pistol permits?

Anyone have either one? Wondering which is easier to get if any difference and where the offices are located if anyone knows?

Don't know about Greene , but I've had an Ulster carry permit for a lot of years. Thing is though that back when I got it things were very different.

All of what I know about acquiring UC permits now is what I've heard from other people. It's my understanding that Ulster is no longer giving out carry permits, at least not without an appeal and a 'good reason' after receiving a premises/range permit. I could be wrong on this one, but last I heard there were two judges in UC issuing permits. Supposedly only one of those two will require a face to face interview from all applicants. Ulster is also now requiring some form of mandatory training I believe.

The office to apply is the ulster county sherrif's office located at the Law Enforcement Center on Rt.32 south of Kingston heading toward New Paltz.

Are 1 or 1 classes needed I heard a non fireing and a live fire class too

State doesn't require live fire as part of training, but your county of residence might.

I'd be shocked in Greene would be hard. By NY standards, Greene is "the country".

Depends on the judge. The liberal one will place restrictions. The conservative one most likely wont. If you get called for an interview, expect restrictions. Take it to NY Firearms.

Yes, NY gun laws are certainly restrictive, but paradoxical. For example, you cannot just go out and buy a handgun without a permit, but you can purchase more than one and there are no limitations on the amount or time. Secondly, you cannot touch a handgun unless the gun is permitted to you but if you have a permit, with or without restrictions, no restrictions meaning that you can conceal, you have a permit for life, with no need to renew. You can carry in bars, churches, town offices, loaded in your car during hunting season, etc. You don't have to declare to a LEO for a routine traffic stop, prudence dictating. If you get an out of state permit, say Florida, you can carry in 37 states, including your home state.
PS, they haven't started looking through my kids lunch box yet, as they have in the more "free states"
Now, I'm not touting the glories of NY, as there are other aspects of the firearm laws that are wrong, without debate, and I hate the liberal politics, but the gun laws are not as bad as NYC, DC, Illinois, Delaware, Maryland, but its not Alaska or Vermont. The hunting and hiking is great, there are places to shoot, and the Upstaters are just like country folks in the other parts of the US, except with a different accent.
My wife and I are always considering moving, but not sure where yet. However, I vote, am a member of the NRA and the NYS Pistol and Rifle Association, give to the ILA and PVF fund. We try to change the laws one voter and gun owner at a time. Any support from the free states is much appreciated. FWIW, our vacations are usually taken in a gun friendly state.
