Just so you don't run out of things to worry about EMP's are also caused by solar flares from our Sun.
Of the two (nuke or solar) solar are much more powerful and have a wider range. However on a island you will not notice any difference.
The last solar EMP to hit mainland United States was in 1859. It knocked out all of the telegraphs in the country. However since this was pre-industrial age it had very little impact on industry and society.
The bad news is it is not possible to predict when a solar EMP will hit Earth. The good news is the Sun is in a cycle of fewer solar activity which reduces EMP's.
