I am aware of bisley birdshead and standard grip profiles.
Where is a good resource to read about any other grip profiles and what the use is for each and any benefits or downsides to each grip?
I am about to get a .44 mag and was wanting to do some research and find out what the best grip may be before I buy.

Are you an experience 44 Magnum shooter? By that I mean the higher end stuff and not the stuff more closely related to 44 Special. Your experience level could have a huge impact on what works for you but nothing you read is likely to prepare you fully for your first true 44 Magnum shot. Especially if that first shot is from one of the "small" versions.

For full house 44 Magnum I like a full size grip with an much rubber as possible and still allow an optimum hold. Optimum for me that is. I like my Super Redhawk and my 629's grips. The 629 is a little thin and after oh, maybe 30-40 rounds gets a mite uncomfortable. But that's just me.

Since you give no experience information, I'd suggest you go fondle every one you possibly can and try and imagine each particular one banging into your palm. As is usually the case, I suggest you shoot many; buy one. I've never rented a 44 Magnum, and don't know anybody who has, but maybe some of your shooting buddies have a few you can try.

The Bisley is FAR more comfortable to shoot than any other SA grip frame design and I've tried all of them. But some guys like HEAVY recoil. Way back in my youth I started out with standard Blackhawk frames and I found that in low pressure rounds like .44 Spl. and .45 Colt they work just fine (because that's what they were designed for at the time). But when you step up into Magnum calibers they will tear up the skin on your hand because the frame will rotate back across your palm on recoil. Even with a glove. Then I tried a Bisley and there is simply no comparison. Much better. Much easier. Much more practical. Elmer Keith came to the same conclusion. Read up on the Grover No 5 Keith revolver. Look at the grip.

Thanks for the advice. I've shot some hot .44 rounds and used to own a S&W 500 mag.
I guess I will just have to handle several and see Which one is most comfortable.

I'm a Bisley guy too, but it really doesn't matter what I say or even really what anyone else says. Gotta try them out yourself, and maybe even with different grip panels if you can manage it. For instance a Blackhawk with a rubber Hogue on it feels a whole lot different than a Blackhawk with factory wood or plastic grips.
