When I was watching that Todd Jarrett Blackhawk clip on Youtube some time back, I got the impression that what he was doing by angling his left hand, with that placing, was exerting downward torque on the pistol that brings it back to the ultimate, angled position when the torque overcomes the force of the gun's recoil. Is this right, or am I getting this wrong?

Yep. Basically, you're "camming" the strong hand down and back with the weak hand to counteract muzzle flip or rotation. Get the heel of the support hand behind the gun if possible, but cam the small fingers of your strong hand back. Helps a lot in stock gun class.
