Hey all, this one is for those who have either Ahrends, Hogue or other non-rubber stocks on their revolvers.

My 629-1 currently wears Hogue nylon finger-groove grips. I already hacked the bottom finger groove fairly smooth. The problem is that my hands are slightly smaller than average; I usually wear a men's medium glove. But I don't want to give up my beloved square-butt N-frame for a K or L frame, at least not yet! :scrutiny:

So I am wondering, between the Ahrends, the Hogues, and/or others, what seems to be the best for folks with average-to-smaller hands? Experiences helpful, please.

PS: I don't want to go to a K or L frame because that would mean a whole new set of reloading components, and I would just HAVE to get a .357 Marlin to go with the .44 Marlin I already have. ;)

I like the plain old Magnas with a Tyler T grip. The old diamond target grips are thinner than the newer ones, but they are getting pretty expensive. Best of all are "Cokes", but those are outrageously expensive! Eagle makes a copy of the coke grip, but I haven't tried them.

Rubber grips.....:barf:

Hey Snapping Twig,

LOVE those Hogues, especially because of the banded bottom. I was looking at them online (I was thinking Kingwood looked cool w/ the band, which are those?), but due to $ might go with Ahrends at about 1/2 the price. But how do you like them, I usually go with Hogues Rubber type be it Revolver or on my 1911, but theres something about that Darned band.

Thanks,

RFB

Hey WW - I have smaller hands as well (medium glove) and usually don't like finger grooves because they are too big for my hands (i.e. Pachmayr grippers) and space my fingers out too far; I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, I just got a new 329PD with the Ahrend's finger groove grips that fit very well, along with Monogrips that fit ok, but are a little big for me. Only problem is I like the round butt, not the round to square conversion that these are, so I am looking to sell them and get Ahrend's round butts. But I would recommend the Ahrend's to you.

Besides, 44s are much more fun than 357s anyway...

I could just secure this, unused S&W N Frame RB fingergrooved Combat grips, taken off a new 629DX.

I have a smallish hand. It has been a continual disappointment that the larger the caliber, the larger the grip size. Grip companies follow suit. They all must assume that only Muscled Mutants use the larger calibers and size the grips accordingly!

Hogue does make grips I like, however when you get into something that has a heavy recoil, such as a Mountain Gun or a 44 Mag, the open backstrap grip hurts my hand.

Smith and Wesson makes a Hogue grip for their 500 Mag. You can only get this grip from S&W. I am glad I did, it is still a bit larger than an open backstrap Hogue, but the front to back is acceptable. It has really tamed the recoil of my 44 Mag. Much more than the Pachmayr gripper grip deaccelerators, which were the only other acceptable alternatives that I have found.

You can even get the “tamer” in yellow! http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/...&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=46303&training=

I had a 629 with Hogue wood grips WITHOUT the finger grooves but with the cap. My hands are average with short fingers. The palm swells seem to make trigger reach in double action difficult (probably work quite well with larger hands). One solution is to order wood grips from Herretts as they will make them to fit your hand based upon a tracing you send them. They recommended a "Roper" style for my Redhawk and they came back with perfect position of the hand for double action shooting. At one time I think Hogue offered a service to make the grip fit one's hand, too, but have not seen mention of this in years.

Check Hogue's site on the internet. They do offer wood grips without any finger grooves or with one finger groove. I have medium size hands and I like the Hogues with one finger groove.

These Hogue's started out as fingergrooved grips and I took quite a bit of wood off to make them fit better. Now I can shoot .44 Magnums painfree with wooden grips. They still look glossy since I had just treated them right before the photo.

Perhaps the Jerry Miculek grips for revolvers? Available at Dillons website.
