I am looking for a set of grips that will cover 2 areas if possible, I would like a little longer grip as well as something that wont bind up on a speed loader. although I like the general feel of the factory grips I don't like the way my pinkie finger kinda hangs out in space and my speed loaders bind up on the grips so the rounds don't release. any suggestions?

I think much is down to compromize - here is my venerable old M85 - carried and sweated upon for a long time :D I did make some wooden grips for it, which felt good (no pic to hand) but in the end - went rubber.

I applied the Hogues to it and it feels ideal - but even so - empty case dump and reloads are still not without some hassles at times. Practice needed there. Hogues are not too spendy so - worth a try IMO.

look good to me, at least my pinkie wouldent be hanging in mid air :) .
I geuss that my options must be limited, due to lack of response.
thanks for looking everyone.

I don't use it as my regular carry gun, but I have the same grips on mine. They work pretty well. I've shot PPC (backup) with it. The reload isn't too bad. You do have to remember to really pop the ejector (as with most snubbies due to the short rod) and tip it up well to get the gravity-assist. Used HKS loaders and they cleared pretty easily, but you do have to practice with them. If the interference with loading/ejecting is too much of a hassle, you can try grinding a bit off in the offending area. Even if you screw up the grips, they're not that expensive, so you can start over. The only kind of annoying things about these grips for carry would be that they are pretty soft and so they tend to cling to fabric. May want to check to see that they don't interfere with your draw by getting snarled in your cover garment.

The Hogue grips don't cover the backstrap, so you may feel the recoil more than with the factory grips. I tried both the Hogue grips and Pachmayr's compact grips on a taurus 905 (same frame as the 85 I think). I liked the Pachmayr's the most, but didn't try a speedloader because the 905 uses "stellar" clips. I don't recall that the grips interfered with the 9mm rounds in the clips. I sold the 905, so I can't look at the grips.

Uncle Mike's grips are the same length as the Hogues but cover the back strap. I have a pair on my 85. They work very well.Or my personal favorites:pachmayrs. My 605 wears a pair. They work great and don't interfere with speed loaders.

Taurus sells a nice set of combat length grips that I got for my Model 85.
The cost $9.00 and can be seen here http://www.taurususa.com/products/rgrips.cfm
I now have the boot grips that cam with it, a nice set of Hogue Seconds wood grips and the combat grips from Taurus.

Wileyj:

Are the combat grips from Taurus more comfortable to shoot than their short grips?

Dang. I forgot about those. My 85 came with those. They work much better than the boot grips.

tgfang.
For me, ABSOLUTELY, the combat grips are better. the boot grips conceal nicely but my pinkie just does not like dangling around in the air with them.

the combat grips and my wood grips both have a place for all fingers and still fit into my jeans pocket for concealment.

Hogue mades a similar grip but the one from Taurus is substantially less expensive.

you know, the plain old wooden grips that came on the older 85's were damned comfortable--you'd be hard pressed to find something superior IMO. Ciuld probably pick some up cheap on ebay or someplace

I have a set of wooden grips here, but I can't recall if they're from a Taurus 82 or 85. Could they be the same grips for each?

I replaced the grips on my brother in law's Taurus with a Hogue grip that simply said it fit "Taurus Medium Frame Revolvers"

I really want to say his was a model 82.......

My 851 came with the standard rubber monogrip. It was OK, but I found that some of my clothing caught on the rubber and thus I was exposed :what:

I found the old standard wood grips for 6$ at a gun show in a box of old wooden grips. Life is good. Fits my hand wonderfully, recoil isn't bad with a 38 load -- well .... that day I shot 400 +p rounds through it got a little long, and I did end up with a blister.

Ebay has some from time to time.

Good luck!

That's what i used to replace the combat grips on my 85. I picked 'em up at a gun show for 5 bucks. I love 'em. And they look great. You can find them on e-bay or Gun Broker from time to time. Prices are usally reasonable.

wileyj,

Thanks. If I get another Taurus small frame in a larger caliber than .32 I will try the Taurus combat grips. The boot grips on my 905 were not something that I wanted to shoot very much.

Taurus 85 Grips

Take a look at this link.

I bought one of the last Total Titanium .32 H&R Snubbies. Great $300 gun (they were blowin' 'em out), and I had money enough for these oversize, fingergrove grips. Gray and black laminate looks cool with funky titaniun brite-blue. FYI, if you're looking for wood grips and have a little time, Hogue has an auction page now where you might get a deal...if you're willing to wait.
Good luck
