I am looking for some wood grips for my Sig P229. I would like to know if I have any options other than Hogue (I've tried them, and they are a bit too thick for my taste) and Nill (If I have no other options I will spring for a set from Nill, but they are pretty pricey!). I know I can buy the stock Walnut grips that Sig puts on some of their P229's directly from Sig Sauer themselves, but they are out of stock at the moment; I'll have to wait if I want those. Any other suggestions?

Just a thought, the Sig grips are pretty thick as well--it's a necessity with wood. I've never cared for the feel personally, but love the looks.

I'm not sure about the Nills, but I'd imagine they're on the thick side as well (in comparison to polymer grips).

Sorry I don't have any other manufacturers to suggest. You may want to try topgunsupply.com for inventory. Tom usually keeps some of those around.

All wood grips for the P229 I have ever used make the grip wider.

If you have the cash check out the new Houge Aluminum grips. Super slim.

SIG factory wood grips for both the 220 & 229 that I've tried are both way too bulky for my medium-sized hand.

Hogue can checker the factory pebbled OEN factory grip panels. No objective measurable significant reduction, but the subjective felt reduction is significant.

Check another thread re grip panels for a 220, this forum.

The factory P229 wood grips on the elite are the most ridiculous grips on any gun ever made. They make the gun nearly 2" thick! ;) That may be an exaggeration but, if you look at an Elite from the rear, you'll see what I mean, it's as wide a steamroller. Medium hands or not, I think even an NBA player would have problems with the factory wood grips. ;)

I would love to have a pair of the checkered black aluminum grips for my P220. $160 a pair. Would be nice to hold them before ordering... ;)

I bought the p229 elite. hated the feel, but do love the look. I think most, if not all wood grips are by nature going to be thicker. at least until TREX starts making grips. But that would be really ugly.

Probably not. I have the 226 blackwater that came with wood grips and they also make the gun thicker than all hell. Im glad the gun came with the stock grips as well. Shame though because the wood grips are really nice.

well..you can use your imagination from my description
1. they are thinner, because they are flater...more like a 1911 with an arched MSH
2. they are "grippier"...the checkering is in the "old style/pattern" and a bit sharper. i thought it was too sharp at first, but i found during a class that they are pretty comfortable without being abusive. they are also great if your hands are wet and/or slippery.

...or...

you could come to the Grayguns class at Camp Butner NC, Oct 10-12 and try out one of my pairs...we should also have a set on a 226 there.
