I got a chance to handle two guns at the gun store the other day.
Neither had grips that fit my hands but the reasons they didn't fit were almost exactly opposite.
One was the Olympic Arms version of the Whitney Wolverine.
It has a polymer frame and a steel bolt that slides inside the plastic frame.
The grip has a good angle, but it was too skinny at the top for my hand. It felt like I couldn't get a good hold on the grip. I'm sure I could have shot it OK, especially since it is a .22 and wouldn't have much recoil.
The next gun was a CZ compact 9mm. I liked it because it could be carried cocked and locked, had good sights, and felt lively. The grips were the problem. They felt too thick at the top. That felt like it pushed my hand off at an angle, and I felt I couldn't hang on right. The compact grips were also too short for me. l felt like I couldn't get my little finger on them well enough. More recoil with the 9mm could make that a problem.
Grips that fit me well include Pach rubber grips for the 1911, and the Browning HP Practical. Stock grips for the Smith M28 revolver also fit me well until recently. I'm putting a pair of Pach Presentations on the M28 as soon as they get here.
I'm usually pretty adaptable. Its unusual for me to find two guns that don't fit on the same trip to the store.
