Handled a S&W 1911 today.

Well, I finally saw and felt one today. $800; seemed very nicely made, the slide/frame fit was unbelieveable, but on this one, I could feel the trigger/grip safety catch. It was really pronounced. Because of that, it left me unimpressed.

I've talked to 2 guys who've handled them and were impressed. PErhaps they were impressed because these were show guns & the company found nice example or maybe you just came across one that needed a little TLC.
Huh? A 1911 that might need some smithin' out of box? That's strange

The NFS sample that came into my shop (along with a nice supply of .500 S&W Magnum rounds) was well fit and nicely finished...but the trigger? Absolutely terrible. The grip safety was so heavily sprung that most peoples hands were shaking trying to depress it enough to fall. Then you had to deal with the 15lb+ trigger pull. Plus it had an added variable trigger pull feature. Depress the grip safety fully, pull the top of the trigger. Trigger pull decreases to about 12lbs. Pull it at the bottom, and its almost impossible to get the hammer to fall. For the asking price, you could get a nice Kimber Custom II SWAT, or similarly setup Springfield Loaded that are just as tightly fitted and have decent trigger pulls. Hopefully we got a Monday gun, and the rest of S&W1911s that come in for retail sale have better triggers.

$800 is way too high for that Smith 1911. I handled one at a local shop the other day for $675 -- and that shop has always been overpriced on their guns.

In a pro-gun state like TN you should expect a better price.

Nice gun, BTW. I just wish they didn't have FCS and the HUGE rollmark.

This guy typically does a $100 markup on anything from the distributor; I would assume that his cost was $700... the shop for $675 must be getting a HECK of a break from their dist...

I saw one at the Pistol Parlour for $699. Nice fit, clean break on the trigger and it came with Wilson Combat magazines! I may get one.
