All,

I'm picking my new .223 target rifle today and am more than itching to go break it in. I know Oregon has lots of good varmint hunting grounds, but I'd like to know if anyone has any favorite areas. I'm in the Portland area and will probably head out to Maupin or Bend area some time soon in pursuit of the squeaks as we used to call them in college in Klamath Falls, Oregon. I know some good areas there, but that's quite a drive and I'll pass tons of happy hunting grounds on the way.

Does anyone know of some ranchers to contact? Are any of you ranchers that would welcome a little pest control? I know many ranchers welcome the weekend exterminator plinkers to reduce the rodent populations on their land. Cows with broken ankles from groundhog holes is rarely a pleasantry for the rancher.

I thought I'd ask here first since THR has been an invaluable resource in many firearms and hunting decisions I've made in the past 6 months or so since I discovered it.

regards,
