GSG 1911 22 - Like em or love em

I have a GSG 1911 22, and love the feel of it as have the same deminsions as my full size 1911s

From what I have read it seems they can be hit or miss on reliability but so far before and after my add ons mine has functioned as designed.



I added a CW accessories (http://www.cwaccessories.com/) match grade thread protector, stainless barrel bushing, stainless steel guide rod and improved recoil spring & Cap.






Added Coco Bolo diamond cut grips (had to change out the metric grip screws for standard)

Added a Wilson Combat flat mainspring housing and internals





Loads of fun to shoot

Mine's a fun little gun, though I gotta keep it clean or I start having problems.

I need to replace the MSH with a flat one at some point, I just haven't gotten around to it.

My brother has a GSG .22LR slide/barrel upper that he fires on his S&W SW1911 quite a bit. It's been very reliable, but the slide is made of very soft potmetal. It seems to pick up marks and nicks on every range outing. It doesn't give you the feeling that it will last forever.

It's a fun gun to shoot, not terribly accurate. Definitely not my favorite .22 handgun.

I like mine. I did find it to be pretty accurate, much better than expected.

For the last month month I've been running my GSG 1911-22 against a new RIA Combo set up (1911 lower with both 22 and 45 uppers). My initial impression of the GSG (bought used ... quite used, for $200) was that it was an accurate representation of a 1911-45 but that it had two flaws, the weight and the trigger. The new RIA has a much better trigger but in using the guns head to head I don't notice the weight difference. The GSG has last shot hold open the RIA 22 does not.

The GSG has been trouble free since I replaced the recoil spring and accuracy is just ok. The sight attachment is really poor.

Question for those that have the CW bushing that claims better accuracy... does it deliver?

I like the CW parts I have, especially the 15 round magazine mod.

I like the RIA for the versatility of a 45/22 pistol, and I'm going to keep the GSG with the idea of installing the new slide CW is coming out with soon. I don't have a pistol with an optic, so that could be interesting item (optic compatible slide) to try.

well, i kinda liked it at first and actually had academy gave me a discount because it is the only one on the display and they have nothing else at that moment. But man, the slide finish is terrible. Being the floor model, it was handled (poorly) and had handling/ wear marks all over.
I shot about 50-60 rds last week with no malfs on the gun part. I did a complete tear down, stripped the factory lube and re-lube before the range trip. 3 malfs were 1 stovepipe and 2 failure to feed. All from winchester 333 value pack. I think the some of the ammo were underpowered and therefor did not have enough to move the slide all the way to feed subsequent rounds.
I think it is an excellent training tool if you have a .45 1911 but to me it didn't leave any lasting impression. Accuracy with that bulk ammo is so-so. It tightened up a bit with CCI (my last 10 rds if the trip).
So yeah, it is up on the local gun trader for sale.

I've been very happy with mine. Thousands and thousands of rounds down range at this point with very few failures to feed, fire or extract - and the few I have had are attributable almost certainly to the Federal bulk ammo I feed it, either through duds or just because I will put 2 or 3 boxes down range between cleanings before it starts getting dirty enough to choke. I agree that accuracy is so-so, but I haven't tried to add either the coned thread protector or removed the barrel screw and substituted a pin (both of which are available and are reported to improve the repeatability of the barrel position at lockup). Hitting a 10" plate at 100yrds is not hard to accomplish though, even as is. The finish is horrible, definitely. After the first 5K rounds it doesn't really get any worse though. I enjoy it for what it is (just as I enjoy my Tokyo Marui 1911 Airsoft pistol); a fun, inexpensive way to get lots of trigger time that is surprisingly applicable to my EDC, IDPA, USPSA and Steel Challenge 1911s.

WOuld be nice to have. But for the same money i did get a Ruger 22/45 5 inch bull barrel and it shoots with no hiccups . Very accurate , too .

If two guns are the same price and one is steel, always go with the steel. I almost bought one of these but ended up going with a Neos instead. Glad you got a good one and that you enjoy it but they're not for me.

I like mine alot....I didn't like the original sights so I bought a set of sights from Dawson precision...a nice fiber optic front with a serrated target rear sight. It is one of my favorite .22's

Very happy with mine. I have put ~1000 rounds thru it with absolutely no issues. Accuracy wise I haven't put it on paper but it does "minute of tin can" all day long.....
