Here's an impromptu review of a GSG-5 owner from the 10-8 forum:
"I picked up my GSG-5 today and made a short trip to the range. Here are my first impressions;
Overall out of the box it looks good. Selector is easy to manipulate, mags were a bit tight in the mag well and the mag catch is a bit stiff but I expect it will break in a bit. The rear sight is configured like the HK rifle sights not like the MP5 sight. The apertures are a bit small and I will be opening one up as I use the third largest opening on my MP5s. Overall barrel diameter is thin, but with the faux can on you'll never see it anyway.
Went to the range and did an extensive internet/gunwriter torture test (IE: 190 rounds ). Ammo was CCI mini mags, mags were loaded to 20 rounds (will hold 24, designed to hold 22).
In that time I had 2 failures of the bolt to lock back on the last round of the mag. While the MP5 does not do this the GSG-5 is designed to. I also had one occasion of a failure to feed on the first round of a mag. On locking the charging handle to the rear and then releasing it again the round then chambered. Beyond that there were no issues.
I did not shoot for any type of accuracy as I was pressed for time (night shift tonight). Targets were a 8 x 10" plate and 8" plate rack at 25 yards. Sights were hitting just a bit high right out of the box. The trigger was a little rough, but certainly not a deal breaker.
I did notice some wear on the upper receiver tube where the cocking handle notch is. I was loading in the same fashion as an MP5 (bolt to the rear, mag in give it a tug, slap cocking handle forward). I'm guessing this will be a normal occurrence and I will keep an eye on it to see if it continues or if it's just a matter of surface wear during break in. Again. nothing to get bent about, but something I noticed.
Overall it's a pretty neat little blaster. Obviously this was a very limited first outing. It will be interesting to see what experience others have and what bugs more extensive use brings about. Given the price of .22 ammo and the rising prices of centerfire ammo I expect some of these guns will see some impressive round counts. "
