Wondering if any of you have ever seen or shot a Ruger GSR with a Burris Fastfire or similar micro reflex sight mounted on a picatinny scope ring above
a LER scope.

I have a Burris 3-12x32 & a 2-7x32 sitting around for my GSR and a set of Blackhawk rings with a picatinny rail top ring. Thinking about going with the Burris 3-12x32 LER scope and mounting a Fastfire above the scope for quick shots on running hogs or deer.

I would be using this rifle while walking up on and hunting hogs and deer in hardwood bottoms type terrain. Sometimes you might be able to see for 200 plus yards through the bottom, but in other places with cane brakes the shots are 50 yards or less in close quarters. Any opinions or advice would be appreciated.

Personally, I think it's overkill. Isn't the purpose of long eye relief to enable both eyes open shooting, and retain peripheral vision? I run a Burris Scout 2.75X on my squirrel and rabbit gun, and I feel the power is just right for the shortish hunting ranges of the northeast. Then again, I'm not taking shots at over 75-100 yds.

But honestly, it might work for you, try it. I like to keep it simple. Got a GSR on order and can't wait! Good luck...

Set your conventionally mounted scope on the lowest power and forget about forward mounted scopes or dot sights. You'll find that is the quickest method for finding targets fast. Especially the 2-7X scope.

On a related note, I have a Fastfire 3 on a Ruger 22/45. The 1913 rail mounting solution for that is less than ideal - it is two torx screws to attach the sight to the 1913 adapter and then the side mount screw to attach to the rail. You'll definitely need loctite.

I use the traditional Leupold Scout Scope on my rifle and it is pretty quick up close. Not quite as fast as a red dot, but still fast enough for most hunting. It also allows me to easily make hits out to 300 yards and much further. You might give that type of scope a look.
