Add info for Venison & other interested forum members,Guernsey is part of a group of Islands situated between 8 miles to 30 miles off the coast of France,& approx 77 miles from the UK. Self gov,British Islands, but not part of the UK or the E.U.We do not have any gunstores etc,but have 8 registered dealers who opperate from their homes supplying guns, ammo & accessories. Handgun sales are restricted to C.I residents only due to bans in the UK & certain other countries.Apart from shotguns, all firearms can only be used on appoved ranges. As the Island is only 9 miles by 5 at its widest with 65,000 people,& a .22 bullet able to travel upto a mile it is too dangerous to hunt (Rabbits Only) with anything other than shotguns. We were occupied by Germany June 12th 1940 till May 9th 1945 (Our National Holiday)& as they left all their equipment here we kept it.Our Police decided it was easier to issue licences than to try to get us to hand them in,& thats how its been ever since. If a lic holder wishes to aquire more guns,he fills in a form with the details, hands to Police & gets approval normally within 4/5 days.A newbie has to be checked out 1st.Then his home security is checked out, approval is then given for anything from 3 to 20 items depending on the quality of the security. If at a later date you wish to increase your holdings, they check again & advise you as to what extra security is required. Some of our collector/shooters have over 400 items each.Ammo is expensive, mainly due to the cost of sea freight,so reloading is very popular,Upto 4 yrs ago we were still using ww2 German 9mm & 7.92mm ammo in exc condition, but its all used up now. There has only been 2 shootings in 60 yrs on the Island, especially good when you take into account the number of guns available.& although we do not have the freedoms you have in the USA,our authorities treat us with respect & consideration, which is something rather lacking in many other places.Happy to answer any other questions you might have at anytime.Best regards Kestral
