Add info for Venison & other interested forum members,Guernsey is part of a group of Islands situated between 8 miles to 30 miles off the coast of France,& approx 77 miles from the UK. Self gov,British Islands, but not part of the UK or the E.U.We do not have any gunstores etc,but have 8 registered dealers who opperate from their homes supplying guns, ammo & accessories. Handgun sales are restricted to C.I residents only due to bans in the UK & certain other countries.Apart from shotguns, all firearms can only be used on appoved ranges. As the Island is only 9 miles by 5 at its widest with 65,000 people,& a .22 bullet able to travel upto a mile it is too dangerous to hunt (Rabbits Only) with anything other than shotguns. We were occupied by Germany June 12th 1940 till May 9th 1945 (Our National Holiday)& as they left all their equipment here we kept it.Our Police decided it was easier to issue licences than to try to get us to hand them in,& thats how its been ever since. If a lic holder wishes to aquire more guns,he fills in a form with the details, hands to Police & gets approval normally within 4/5 days.A newbie has to be checked out 1st.Then his home security is checked out, approval is then given for anything from 3 to 20 items depending on the quality of the security. If at a later date you wish to increase your holdings, they check again & advise you as to what extra security is required. Some of our collector/shooters have over 400 items each.Ammo is expensive, mainly due to the cost of sea freight,so reloading is very popular,Upto 4 yrs ago we were still using ww2 German 9mm & 7.92mm ammo in exc condition, but its all used up now. There has only been 2 shootings in 60 yrs on the Island, especially good when you take into account the number of guns available.& although we do not have the freedoms you have in the USA,our authorities treat us with respect & consideration, which is something rather lacking in many other places.Happy to answer any other questions you might have at anytime.Best regards Kestral

I must say, I like the fact that it sounds like they are actually willing to help you get a permit. I never thought I would say it, but parts of Europe even beat New Jersey.

Channel Islands, I'm guessing

Thank you for this glimpse of a part of the world about which little is known in the USA. It does sound as though there is quite a bit more common sense there than some places we read about (including parts of our own beloved nation).

We are glad to see and get to know members of a thriving community of responsible firearms owners.

Thanks again, and a merry Christmas to you.

Good attitude...

Kestral--It would appear that for Europe, you have a very fine situation from the shooting standpoint. This is a Good Thing. And
our authorities treat us with respect & consideration
is always a Good Thing also. May it remain ever thus.

BTW, the kestrel has always been one of my favorite birds of prey.

And a Happy Christmas to you from across the pond.

Thank you Gentlemen for your interest,Yes ,C.I does mean Channel Islands, the largest is Jersey, thats where your New Jersey was named from,& I believe you have a Guernsey County in the USA, so we do have some things in common apart from guns etc.Jersey & Guernsey cows are also known world wide for their exc quality milk. Now a days we have many visitors coming to view the ww2 relics, bunkers & fortifications, inc many from Germany, bringing their grandchildren to show them where they were during the war.At one time we had some giant sized naval guns installed from a Russian Battleship, but they were cut up after the war. but the installations are still there. One of the Guernsey web sites have all the info on them if you want to find out more. Thanks again for your interest ,and may I wish you all a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.Kestral.

Interesting. I heard about this from this group of Irish guys I went shooting with one time.
One of them commented on the P-225 I had at the time, saying that he owned the same gun and he somehow kept it on your islands because they had been missed by the most severe gun regulations.
