Guess they want more victims in Va....

This is the most frightening part of the post:
I was the only one who spoke in favor of the bill.

Heck, even MD manages to have 20-40 people speak in favor of good legislation.

The good people of Virginia need to be vigilant as the do-gooders from MD, NJ, NY come to VA looking for cheap land and low taxes. The natural progression of things will be to correct all of those "backwards southerners":fire:

There's no requirement for registration of the guns I already owned when I moved to North Carolina, and there's no written record anywhere that says I own this particular handgun. So if the unarmed and recently-perforated intruder is rapidly assuming room temperature on my living room floor, he'll become the proud new (if somewhat brief) owner of that shootin' iron.

Tampering with evidence is a serious crime. A lot of cops, g-ds bless them, aren't the swiftest on the uptake, but they are persistent and they deal with things like this all the time. You don't. You will get caught. Your claim of self defense will evaporate, and you'll be facing a lot of jail time.

COMMON LAW NO CHANGE

This law will not have any effect on defending yourself in your home or anywhere else. There is no duty to retreat in Virginia. This action is rooted in common law and backed up by case law.

This law was proposed to simply put into statue law that which is already in common law. There is no change because of its defeat. Read and know your current law on handling and using a firearm in selfdefense.

There was more to the bill than simply affirming your right to drop a BG in your living room.
That's what I thought. Immunity from liability suits is THE most important part of the current crop of Stand-Your-Ground legislation. (Please don't call it Make-My-Day because that's not what it is about. And if you call it Shoot-First then you might as well leave THR and join the Brady Bunch.)

That being said, I the cops I know in Fairfax are pretty cool, it's the prosecutors and soccer-mommy jury you'd have to worry about.
Yeah, unless you're a SWAT cop and "accidently" shoot an unarmed, non-agressive suspect point blank in the chest, as long as you don't have malice in your heart. :barf:

I believe things have changed this year in the City of Richmond, not that they were ever really that bad. There was a major opinion change here on the part of a lot of folks, even some of the pacifists, when the Harvey family was murdered New Year's Day. The horror of a mom, dad and two little girls, 9 & 4, being killed in their basement by two ex-cons will do that. They bound them, cut their throats and then set the place on fire.

John - I've noticed that too. I even get folks who know me and were either borderline or flat out anti asking me to take them to the range/gunstore/show and I always oblige. My wife changed her tune a bit too, no more slacking on the door locking etc.. My store is in the neighborhood where they lived - they were good folks.

ATAShooter - is that American Taekwondo Association?
