gun belt

Looking for a gun belt for $40 shipped or less, leather prefered, in black. Any suggestions?

Or is this an unrealistic goal? I hope to purhase one from the belt man down the road, just need to make do for 6 months or so, dont think my swiss army belt will cut it, its already falling apart. Lol. Needs to hold up a 29 oz gun and crossbreed supertuck holster daily.

I have a Wilderness 5-stitch Instrutor belt. It is a good option.

Don't bother with half-measures, get the belt you really want, rather than wasting money on a temporary thing. If you absolutely cannot afford the price of a BeltMan belt, throwing $40 at something else isn't going to fix your problems ... but there are some pretty good no-name belts on the market that are simply stamped "amish-made" that have good thick deeply dyed leather and a nice roller buckle, I see them at gunshows and in work-wear stores, and was using one before I started carrying ... it would work for a while with a light gun and IWB carry, if you have a decent holster.

But it isn't even in the same league as BeltMan's stuff (although the roller buckle from that amish belt is on my BM bullhide belt, and the bullhide belt's buckle is on my CrossBreed belt that became my work belt, the CB buckle is on the Amish belt and the horsehide belt remains with its original black buckle ... so I guess I've done some swapping about and am using at least part of every belt I ever tried to use as a gunbelt)

For what its worth, I actually did find a used Belt Man belt for around $35 or $40 (on THR I believe), so it is possible.

But I wouldn't pass up a BeltMan belt used if it fit, mine haven't developed a funk or anything, and it isn't like used underwear or something.

Yeah, I was REALLY lucky that I found mine. The minute I saw it, I knew I had to jump on it. It is a great belt, just a tad bit big if I'm not carrying, but it is absolutely perfect when I carry my Sig IWB. It is even the right color! I have no idea how I got that lucky, but man it's nice when it happens!

It's not leather, but I got a reinforced nylon one (velcro closure, no buckle) for $35 awhile back from cheaper than dirt. Until I got this belt I couldn't comfortably carry my 1911. Now it's no problem at all.

Excellent advice. If you spend some time looking over belt ordering instructions from a few different vendors, you'll notice they seem to measure their belts differently. Don't assume you know what size to order, you need to follow the sizing instructions.

I just bought an "Amish work belt" on Ebay for $25. It's as suitable as any of the custom gun belts sold for carry purposes, though perhaps not as stylish...

It's tough to get a good dress belt for $40, let alone a good gun belt. I would suggest biting the bullet and getting a good one. Most of mine have cost twice that much.

My thoughts on belts

In hot weather I carry a 1911 (in a Cordura holster) and two spare mags and a Leatherman tool (in Cordura pouches) on a 1.75" belt from 5.11, their heaviest grade, and it performs admirably. I believe it is the equal of the 5-stitch Wilderness belt. And you can buy one for around $40.

But I think $40 for a proper leather gunbelt is unrealistic. I use one from Bob Mernickle that cost close to $100 and holds the same gear (but in leather holster/pouches). I'm on my third year with it and it shows no sign of stretching or deterioration (but then, I don't subject it to perspiration).

Lots of guys here at THR and on another, similar site (which shall remain unnamed, since I was banished from there!) rave about The Beltman. I don't know just how heavy/thick his belts are, but my Mernickle belt is the heaviest/thickest I've seen, far superior to the "heavyweight" Safariland or Bianchi belts I used previously.

In any event, a good leather belt is an investment, and its true cost is the price you pay divided by the use you get out of it. Just like the C.C. Filson motto, "Might as well have the best!"

After having my second Beltman belt stolen in a couple of years I finally decided to order a cheaper belt so after the next theft I wouldn't feel so bad. Cabelas has a double-layer leather belt, item # 95-6758 for $39.99 which has worked well for me for a couple of years. It is stiff and solid and works fine. Fancy? No, but quite functional.

If you get quality the first time, you only have to buy one.

Go to your local leather goods store of to a saddle maker. Purchase a length of saddle leather or 1 1/2" cinch leather in your length plus turn back for the buckle and 6 to 8 inches extra. Buy some leather shoe laces and make your own. I've been using the belt for the last 4 years and carry a Kimber UCC II on either a Yaqui slide or IWB without any problems.

I came to terms with the fact that i had to spend a bit more, after looking at rgleather, the beltman, and a couple others.

I decided to go with rick at rgleather. I had many questions for him and he answered them quickly, with patiance. We will see how it goes. Decided on the double layer.
