Republicans have ended negotiations on a bill that would expand background checks for gun purchases because of House Democrats’ push for an impeachment inquiry into President Trump.

A Senate staffer told Washington Free Beacon reporter Stephen Gutowski that “gun legislation is dead, at least for the time being, because of the impeachment inquiry” that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Tuesday.

I guess we have the Democrats to thank for this (temporary) win,
ironic isn’t it.

I think all sides (the actual political players, not the antigun activists) are happy to see the gun issue laid aside until after the 2020 election. (That's on the federal level. The state level is a different story.) Beto O'Rourke singlehandedly turned the issue toxic for the Democrats.

Ironic that as a Mestizo myself (half Spanish/half native American) that my Christian name given is Robert and I denounced all attempts to be given that Beto name among others, sure I had nicknames but none were Spanish . my father and I went to great lengths to be called Robert and not Roberto yet this dude wants to be called Beto that's not even his name... I was so happy I voted for Cruz again!

This is only the end of the beginning. We are 6 weeks out from the one year countdown to the presidential election.

Republicans need an unimpeachable President. I know people hate Washington and love that Trump just ignores the rules, but ignoring the Constitution is going to backfire and then whether this cycle or in the future we will have somebody like Warren in office who will issue a bunch of obnoxious anti gun executive orders, probably take a cue from Trump and call it a national emergency.

If we want proper government we need to elect proper people.

It will never be "dead" it is just "postponed" So the circus can carry on some other nonsense. The gun bull is just cut and past from the same crap in 2016.

Everybody has just assumed that Trump will be the nominee on the GOP side. That may no longer be the case. How is Pence on guns? (If there are earth-shaking developments, the GOP selection process may be blown wide open. If that happens, the gun-rights side may have enormous influence. Much more than the influence it has on Trump.)

Yeah, but that still doesn't mean the President should ignore the constitution, or that doing so will end well for gun owners. Seriously, the "national emergency" thing is going to bite us hard.

Last I checked 2A was part of the constitution as well. Seems important..
