I was wondering what are some of the good gun books? Here are some I found on Amazon and I was wondering what you thought.

Books:
All the Gun Digest books
Practical Gunsmithing
Gunsmithing: Pistols & Revolvers

I also found this Magazine:
American Gunsmith

Thanks,
John

P.S. I would like to finish off with an apology. I am sure this topic has been done many times but it is the type of question that everyone has at some point.

Gabe Suarez worked for a city that was close to Los Angeles.

If you want a good, old gun smithing book, Walther Howe's is highly recommended. I wrote the fellow years ago and got him to sign a bookplate for my copy. :)

I'd agree on all the ''GunDigest'' books from DBI .... mine are all about 1980 vintage . Dean Grenell wrote the reloading one.

''American Gunsmith'' .... took that mag' for a year or so ... but not impressed ... they offer all sorts of ''incentives'' if you subscribe but they are IMO ''hollow'' deals .. I ceased bothering with it ... and personally would not recommend.

I do find Steven A.Camp's ... ''Defensive Handguns'' a good read and ref work .. it is very ''no frills'' and some good info.

''Gun Digest'' and ''Shooter's Bible'' ..... I try and keep copies of those that are not too old ... very useful for ref. Oh and the Second Edition S&W book too ... that's good ref.

In The Gravest Extreme by Massad Ayoob. Ayoob talks about not just the mechanics of shooting, but the legal ramifications. All of his books are excellent. He has been a convincing expert for the defense of many SD defendants against overzealous prosecutors.

The many questions on gun forums make it clear that many members need to read basic firearms history books.

Keith's, "Sixguns" and Geoffrey Boothroyd's, "The Handgun" are excellent and can be at times had via Amazon.com

David W. Arnold's, "Shoot a Handgun" is a good primer, if you can still find a copy.

Local libraries may still have Larry Koller's books for new shooters and hunters.

Haven and Belden, "The Colt Revolver, 1836-1940" is a worthy classic.

Roy Jinks's, "History of Smith and Wesson" is a must as are the current S&W books (two editions) "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson".

R.L. Wilson's Colt and Winchester books are good, as is his "The Beretta Heritage"

Robert Held and Morco Morin', "Beretta" (1980) is a masterpiece.

Get thee by a major book store and browse the gun book section. You'll probably find something useful.

Finally, the "Gun Digest" has for many years listed a fine catalog of gun books in the back. Read that list.

Understanding Firearm Ballistics by Robert A. Rinker has been the most informative I've read.
