In another thread, someone mused if it would be legal to administer a "buy back" program of your own in order to buy guns at a cheap price. What do you think? Would it work? What would be wrong with it?

Advertise in local papers that you will be buying all guns for $50 no questions asked. As an individual, what would be wrong with it?

Advertising and offering to buy guns in quantity from the general public might make you sound very much like a dealer.

While in the other thread (not sure why this just wasn't posted there actually) I said I wanted to preempt the gun buy back, I can't say i am interested in doing it on a higher level. I just want to buy several guns in several separate FTF transactions. :D

It's been done before and its perfectly legal but if you try to turn around and sell them for a profit you will be arrested.

If you choose to keep them for your own collection, sell them at cost, give them away, or trade them... you are good.

Because this thread has nothing at all to do with you SpecialKalltheway, and I don't remember exactly what the thread was actually about but I didn't want to "hijack" the thread and I wanted to deal with this topic specifically.
