Gun Cabinet or Safe

I am looking for a different way to store my rifles. I am in the U.S. Army, so I move a lot. For this reason, I don't want to buy a big heavy gun safe until I retire in 6 years. I have about 15 rifles and many are scoped and I have few garands. I don't believe they will all fit too well in a standard sized gunsafe. I have seen photos on the internet of individuals who have placed a rotary gun rack (http://www.gun-racks.com/features___rotary_racks) inside of a hollowed gunsafe or wooden gun cabinet and it actually seems more convenient. Any idea where I can get one of these safes or gun cabinets? I'm not looking for anything with any or much fire protection. I'm more concerned about my kids and petty criminals. I even checked into modular gun safes like Zanotti Armor, but their waiting period is quite long.

Just buy a safe and deal with it. How much is you collection worth? how much is your childs life worth, back in the day's of stupid youth, my friend and I picked his dads cheap gun cabinet lock all the time. Took about 1 minute to get in and go, we would go shooting and be back and have the stuff put back before he got home. What about one of the construction lock boxes, you could put in your garage?

If you move alot a heavy safe would kinda suck but a wood/glass cabinet dosent provide any protection.

not as safe as a safe but safer than a wood cabinet.

A cheap safe, with a secondary cable inside, should work fine. Take up handloading, and store your bullets/lead in the bottom. $200 tops, and empty, one man can easily pick it up.

I was looking at the Stack On cabinets, but I need to travel to Bass Pro or Cabelas to see one first hand. I have mixed reviews on their cabinets. A gun safe is definitely out of the question. I would rather wait 6 more years and buy the one I want, instead of opting for a lighter and cheaper model right now that will have to be moved every couple years and possibly damaged.

Well, what would you like us to tell you then? I've got an el-cheapo sitting next to my good safe. They're easy enough to put shelves in to store other stuff.

If you're worried about "very young" children accessing your guns, a cabinet works. If your goal is to deter/delay dirtbags from stealing your guns, get a safe, anchor it, and make it as difficult (read time-consuming) as possible to break in to . . . nothing is foolproof, but thieves hate noise, time, and big dogs trying to chew their leg off while they're plying their trade . . . (my dog happens to sleep in the gun room and LIKES legs . . . ).
