Guys I'm new here and I need some help. I'm looking to start up a gun club at work. My problem is I have to write up some bylaws to be approved by HR. I want to make sure that the people that join the club are gonna be safe. Should I require a concealed weapons permit to join or do you think that will cause conflict by excluding too many people. Also if you have any ideas how I can make sure the members are safe please feel free to commint.

I don't understand what you mean by "safe".

I assume you won't be shooting AT work, that might not be safe. Do you mean to make sure that they practice proper gun safety before going to shoot with them?

If so, teach them. Let everybody know you are starting a group to learn gun safety and eventually everybody can go to the range or something. That might be fun. Make everybody memorize Col. Jeff Cooper's Four Rules as a prerequisite to anything else.

It sounds like you have to do the work rather than HR.

You shouldn't exclude first timers that don't have or even know what a CCW is.

I'd just have each of them sign a liability waiver so you and the company wouldn't get sued. These waivers are usually at the shooting ranges.

It's kinda like the work softball team...maybe even get uniforms?:D

What about contacting your local range for a group discount and pick their brain?

yeah i want tp make sure everyone os a safe shooter> the reason for the CWP was to make sure the individual was legally able to own a firearm. I understand what your saying about teaching them but I'm not really wanting to start a class. I'm looking more to start a club to maybe have some company wide bowling pin matches or turkey shoots ect.

Welcome to THR, clemson1.

Lots of people who are legally able to own firearms, including many avid shooters and most newbies, don't have CWPs. I'd look for a way to exclude as few people as possible, then be adamant about safety on range trips.

I understand that you don't want to start a class, but you might have co-workers who can take new shooters in hand, once the club is under way. As I understand it, your goal right now is to write by-laws which will satisfy the HR department that you're not going to let anyone get hurt or incur any liability for your company.

Someone who's done it, or who's done something similar, will probably be along in this thread. There are a lot of experienced folks available around here.
