I tend to agree with you despite the hooplah against that position. You can't support the disarming of felons without identifying them somehow. If we had a truly effective justice system then people too dangerous to buy a weapon wouldn't be on the streets. We don't so until you do you have to have some soultion to maintain the anti-felon law.
So instead of supporting and working for laws which would work to keep keep people safer you support feel good laws that don't actually keep criminals from getting guns? We give the anti's crap because they think that laws against concealed carry will keep someone that wants to commit crimes with a gun wouldn't carry one because they'd be breaking the law. At the same time though some of our own people believe that a criminal wouldn't get a gun because it would be illegal.

This is a good point, but I wouldn't go too hard on the poster to which you were responding. If it were possible to prevent felons from obtaining guns, such an idea would be praise-worthy.

But comparing the poster's idea with those of the antis isn't fair, IMO. The restrictions anti's want are wrong, even if enforcement WAS possible.

I.e., even if we could "wish away guns", as they dream, it would still be a bad thing. Guns are en equalizer for the weak, and self-preservation is a natural right.

But this isn't anything that hasn't been said here before...

Don't forget that some of us think restricting felons out of jail from having firearms is wrong too ;)
