Gun Control promise

Other people seem to speak better than I tend to...

This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future! "~Adolph Hitler, 1935, on The Weapons Act of Nazi Germany

You ought to fact check that...

Example:

I believe it is critically important than any and every fact we present be 100% legit and verified.

Hell no. Even in the wasteland of personal liberty that California has become, they feel the current state of firearms restrictions are only the current phase in the outright banning of privately owned firearms.

Point is - that promise would be the given inch and the taken mile will be coming once one bends.

Counter Offer

Your proposal is unacceptable.

I will counter with one of my own: they promise to repeal all infringing legislation, and we agree not to hound them to the ends of the earth for crimes against the Constitution.

I think that sounds fair.

They've been disarming victims for decades. They've been conditioning citizens to be submissive for decades. That's cost a lot of lives. They should be held answerable for that. But, in exchange for a complete repeal of all infringing gun legislation, I'm willing to let that ride. Redemption, and all that.

+1, unfortunately, time is on the government's side since the next generation coming up in general, is dumb as snot regarding the Constitution and freedom. Twenty to thirty years, and a great deal of those opposing their alignment will be gone or too sick to care about politics any longer. Sadly, I don't have much hope for the next generation who buy into much of their agenda already. I don't know how we will get to them.

Freedom costs and is demanding, slavery is an easier choice at least in the beginning. I truly question whether Americans relish true freedom any longer. If we don't understand what it means to be free, then we shall not remain free. My father's generation are either dead or soon to die. He was born in 1926. They understood the cost and paid it dearly. I have serious doubts about the current generation and what they are willing to pay.

Compromising on gun rights is only one symptom of our sad state of affairs. I hope we can turn it around, but perhaps I am treading on God's domain with that hope.

I think it's pretty common for a generation to think the next is dumb as snot.

Dear Warp, my dumb as snot comment was directed specifically at knowing and understanding constitutional freedoms. We were taught that in public schools in the 1960's. They no longer teach kids what we were taught. For a kid today to understand these things, someone outside of school must teach them. Unfortunately, many in my Viet Nam era generation are not the best examples of patriotism and constitutional law. It is our fault in the end that we have not taught all of this generation what their constitutional duties and privileges are.

In addition, kids today spend an inordinate amount of time interacting with a computer or other device. I took my grandson swimming the other day with one of his friends. Both are about 15. They spent 10 minutes messing around in the pool, and then went and sat in the hot tub for the rest of the hour. Kids today don't even know how to play hard let alone work hard. Many have written on this topic from a more objective view point. I don't stand alone in wondering how long freedom shall reign in America. It lives or dies with each generation. They are starting out with a much greater handicap than my generation started out.

I don't even bother taking my grandson canoeing since he would want to quit after five or ten minutes. Instead, I go with my 56 yo wife who is a real machine when it comes to paddling. We go straight for an hour to hour and a half full tilt. Not bad for old timers like us, but our kids, they can't keep up with us. Go figure, yes, I stand by my comments that I am greatly worried about the generations to come. They don't even know how to play hard.

Hell no! I can tell you this as well, if for whatever reason they did start a complete ban and go from door to door they would not get mine without one hell of a fight. They would have to send an army to take me out first and given that I have 3-4 friends that feel the same way I am pretty confident that within the heavily wooded area we live near that we could hold them off for quite some time. I would also hope that it would spark the minds of others to do the same. IMO, the day they come to confiscate guns the day the revolution starts. That is dangerous ground for everyone especially for the politicians and one that I really ^^^do not see them doing. I could be wrong though and I just stated how I feel. Let's hope it never comes to that.

No way.

I have had thoughts in this direction myself. But it NEVER works that way in any sort of issue. There is a reason "Give them an inch, they'll take a mile" is such a common adage.

No way.

To the OP.

The premise of your hypothetical proposal is impossible.

Politicians leaving alone an important political topic of debate forever could never happen in reality.

You might as well be asking "If the moon was made out of BBQ spare ribs, would you eat it?"

There is no absolute possible here and it could never happen, no matter what the majority of people favor.
