A good friend of mine (my range buddy) is an avid bullseye shooter. We go to the range twice a week for a couple hours at a time, here in Burbank California. He's Icelandic, but this is his country of choice (Go USA!!), and he's legal. Recently he went to Iceland to visit his family. Iceland has very specific gun laws. There is a total ban on all pistols, you may own single shot rifles only. He goes out to a night club, and right off a stranger offers to sell him 2 Glocks! This in a country where no one may possess a pistol for any reason (government officials excluded). While this story is anecdotal, I found it interesting how worthless gun bans can be, even in a landlocked low crime nanny state country. One last note, in his ten plus years in this country, no one has ever offered him an illegal firearm, me either, and I look like a criminal!

Well I am sure you know that fully automatic rifles have been outlawed since the 1920's but somehow they seem to make it into the country and into the hands of criminals. I suppose that in every large drug shippment coming into the US is a fully auto assualt rifle sent as a bonus.

Taking guns out of the hands of citizens does just that, prevents citizens from defending themselves. Criminals always have guns, knives, clubs or whatever it takes to get your money or steal your property.

Gun writers claim that over 2.5 million crimes are prevented each year by gun owners displaying a gun for protection. They don't even have to shoot that gun in most cases to get the criminals running away. You will never, never hear this statistic on the ABC channels.

Its sad that Iceland has been taken over and controled by the same group of progressive socialist commies that seem to roam Europe, Australia, Canada and now the US.

If all I could use was a single shot I would give up hunting and tell government to take care of controlling the deer herds by themselves. No move hunting license revenue from me. Screw them.

Huh? Says who? I know several people who own perfectly legal automatic rifles, submachine guns and belt fed weapons. In fact I hope to have one of my own soon. As long as your state permits, all you need is the BATF approval and the tax stamp. And lots of ammo.

Say what? The National Firearms Act of 1934 began registration, but other than some import bans and the Hughes Amendment :)cuss: :cuss: :cuss: ) there hasn't been much on that front.

It's a simple fact.
If there is a demand for something, there will be a market for it. Legal or otherwise.
All law enforcement agencies can do is keep a lid on things. It's perpetual.

I think the war on illegal drugs is much more important. Considering the resources that it takes to deal with just one drug addict.

Could you clairfy what you are talking about? This isn't the case in the United States. Are you saying that everyone with an automatic rifle is a criminal? Since I can't imagine that someone touting themselves as an NRA Patron member having such a poor understanding of gun laws, I can only presume we are misunderstanding your post.

Iceland is landlocked? I thought it was an Island?

Anyway, all you need to do to see how well gun control works is look south of the border - Mexico has gun control and its paradise right?
