Gun guy syndrome?

There's nothing wrong with your observations -- lots of truth there. Are you familair with SouthNarc, and the things he is teaching? There are videos at the shivworks.com site that speak directly to what you're saying.

And they have a lot to do with this (perhaps poorly chosen :)) "Gun Guy" hangup. The idea is, you aren't going to get a clean draw, plenty of space to work, and a target standing a few yards away as though he's made of carboard!

Take a look at what exactly is being taught and share your thoughts.
Using a Droid OS I wasn't able to learn as much about the courses as I had anticipated, but what I read about has merit. An assailant can move 15"-18" every 0.1 seconds, add in reaction (Rx) time and engagement distances shrink rapidly creating extreme close distance encounters.

Back in the day of Bill Jordan holsters and style of firearm presentation, once the muzzle cleared the holster our wrists rotated until we were on target and fired.

A problem with post class defensive training as I see it is partnering up with another person to keep one's skills honed. :)

Yeah I did some ECQ stuff before it is very effective. We were shooting with out bodies pressed up against the target horizontal or vertical guard ad popping off two round from number two. We would back out and collect at number three where the weapon is so close to your chest you can feel the slide touch it every shot pop off three more and step diagonally back to full extension. We'd also start out at number four and drive in firing the whole time.

The problem with a lot of people is they expect the gun will solve their problem and it won't. Only combative knowledge and good training will prepare you to win. Plinking targets at an indoor range is NOT training. Carrying a weapon with that as your only training will insure you a trip to the morgue!

Quote "When the buzzer sounded I punched the target and knocked it over frame and all. I then drew and put two holes in the down zero area. The RO did not see it my way and I was given a five second procedural even though everyone got a good laugh." end quote

Serious discussion but I must admit "I had a good laugh".............Joe
