Gun in storage facility

Hello,

Due to less than ideal circumstances I may have to keep my CZ452 rifle in a storage facility through the winter months. The rifle is in a hard case with plastic padding and desiccant packs on the inside. It has a wood stock. The facility has concrete walls and a corrugated metal door, but no heating or humidity control. Is this a good or bad idea?

I would make sure it is well oiled and also maybe put the rifle in one of those plastic bags that prevent corrosion. Might also want to invest in one of those military type hard cases that are heavy duty waterproof or put the whole case in a space bag and suck the air out. Oh yeah microwave the desiccant every once in a while to refresh it. The cold is not necessarily bad for it as much as large temperature swings where condensation can form.

Edit: I forgot to add if the rifle has a wood stock then too dry of conditions may dry out the wood. For whatever reason thought you said AR. If the stock is an oiled finish then you should maybe put a couple of coats of tongue oil on the stock to keep it "moisturized" though I am not exactly sure if this is the proper thing to do.

Gosh, around here those things get broken into all the time. Plus I wonder if their contract prohibits storing firearms. Maybe the contracts vary.

You don't have parents or other family members?

I would store the rifle with my parents or other family members before i would leave it in one of those storage facilities. The owners of these places should put a neon sign up saying "Rob Me", because they places are magnets for criminals. Put the rifle into a silicone impregnated gun sock. The foam in hard sided gun cases will retain moisture and your rifle will be ruined.

From my experience, that statement is far from the truth. The robberies, which are very few, has always been someone related to the person or a "friend" of the person who has the storage space in the years that I have been associated with one. I'm not really defending the storage places, but there just isn't a problem. Most people don't have anything of any real value in the storage spaces. Most people would be shocked at how many spaces are full of mostly junk, sometimes just empty boxes.

IMO find another option. IF you have to I would stick it in locker with golden rod (I assume there is juice in each unit?) You could send them to a FFL to store. (If in MN I would store it)
