I am looking into changing my home owner's insurance and the potential new policy, from a reputable insurer, does not have good coverage on guns ($2500). For $200/year they will cover up to $10K w/ no deductable. This will include coverage if it gets stolen from my vehicle, lost while hunting, etc. So it is full coverage for $200/yr. The problem is I have more than $10K in guns. I am considering looking for a seperate policy. I know the NRA has $1000 worth of insurance for members and you can extend this policy up to $500K. What other options are there from reputable companies? Suggestions please.

Thanks,

Brazos

You can always double insure your personal articles by purchasing another policy, from a different insurance company, for the same set of articles. This will give you two policies that add up to the value you are looking to insure.

That's cheaper than the NRA insurance. I took out 4,000 coverage with them and it was 79.60

Has anyone actually used this service? www.collectinsure.com they list this forum on their site. It seems quite reasonable, I think I might get mine insured.

edited to say, I have heard that it is a bad idea to tell or try to get your guns insured through your homeowners, that your policy will go up just because you own them, not to cover them.

Please take a look at Eastern Insurance's Historic Firearms. This is a very well written Chubb policy.

Rates lower than homeowners and NRA, better terms. ( Based on my current policy, and then the posted rates and policy fee, the Eastern / Chubb policy is quite a bit less than Collectinsure. )

Thanks for the tips on some other insurance companies. I will look into them. The NRA insurance seemed a little high but I assume since they are NRA sponsered they are reputable. I just don't want to loose my guns to find out the insurance policy I have is not much use because the company is shady.
