Hello Guys,

Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question.

Background:
I am doing a savage build and will be using gun-kote for most of the metal finish. I have never used gun-kote in particular but i have an airbrush i have used before so i cant imagine the application is going to out of my ability. I understand that prep work is 90% of the work. I have heard many people refer to how much finer an application you can get versus dura cote.

Question:
Can you gun-kote over barrel threads?

Thanks again guys!

Anything that's a coating will build up (read - reduce clearances), and may cause a problem.
Bluing isn't a coating, so it doesn't hurt anything.

I coat the threads on muzzle brakes..both the internal and external ones..all of the time with no problems. However, I only use Gunkote 2400 Series molly resin. I don't know about the other types of Gunkote (KG Industries) products. The 2400 Series contains quite a bit of Mollybdenum Disulfide (aka Molly) and will burnish to a perfect fit on close tolerance parts. I use it on all firearms internals as well as externals. Now, having said that: Threads that are coated are usually a little tight. I first thread on the part dry, then blow off the dust and do it again with lube. You may have to work it a little to get the threads loosened up enough to suit you. Keep yer powder dry, Mac.

OK Mac, I had to bite. I had a hunch something was up so I hit #2. THAT's GREAT!! But I sure with I hadn't just taken a sip of coffee when I did it.

Sorry Racinbob! Heh heh! I did that because I was getting a lot of email inquiries in foriegn languages. I could muddle my way thru most of them if they had some English in them but I started to get some in Chinese. I just deleted them. Then one day, I got one in very broken English from a Chinese guy who DEMANDED that I install the Chinese language on my computer so he could write me in his native language. Now, I ask you: What good what it do if my computer can display the Chinese language since I can't read it anyway?
I installed that Push # 1 for English and Push # 2 for everything else on our web site and haven't had any language issues since. Hey, we all have to do our part for "political correctness", right? It's politically correct, right? Sort of? Maybe? Ok, ok! It's not politically correct at all! In fact, it's a protest against political correctness! Keep yer powder dry, Mac.
