Gun Related License Plates?

Way back in the early '80s when I was just getting into firearms as a teen, I recall seeing a Z28 with the vanity plate FN FAL. Not all that creative, I guess, but I thought it was cool that somebody had a plate commemorating one of my favorite battle rifles!

I've always thought something as simple as 1911A1 on a plate would be nice...not something that would stand out much to the general public but that would bring a smile to fellow drivers who were in-the-know. :)

Before it got old and pitted I had a frame that said:

To Be a Victim

Support Gun Control

Not trying to start an argument, but, do you ever worry that the plate might make your car or truck the target of a thief trying to find a concealed weapon or something? I'm all for showing pride in gun ownership, I just don't want some jerks breaking into my vehicle.

I think if I see 'IMARMED' or 'GLCK40' on a license plate I will avoid temptation to break into it for fear of an armed owner nearby.

Not any more than seeing those bumper stickers proclaiming "I don't dial 911, I dial .357" or "This vehicle protected by Smith & Wesson"! If anyone was smart they would know that a responsible gun owner doesn't use a car or truck as a gun safe.

Yes, TexasSIGman, criminals are not a real smart group. I recall seeing a Lincoln's license plate that read BIGBUXX. I wonder if anyone broke in his car looking for hoards of cash!!!:D

Saw one recently..

4570LVR

Not sure if it mean "loves the 45-70 round" or "shoots 45-70 in a lever-action gun", but I though it was kinda neat..:D

Or maybe "I love to drive 70 in a 45MPH zone"...

I wouldn't advertise. You leave yourself open to car jackings, home invasions, break-ins, etc.

So you don't leave your gun in the car/truck -- fine. But someone just has to break into your glove box, find your home address on your insurance card/registration, etc. then scope your house out for when you're not home. Bust in with the proper tools to take down safes, lock boxes, etc.

Or, wait for you to return to your vehicle from the bar/store/etc. knowing you are likely armed, and get the drop on you.

Forewarned is forearmed, as they say, and I choose not to advertise the fact that I have at my disposal, and may use, deadly force.

You got that right -- on the other side of the street I once saw a Jag in Monterrey, CA with a license plate that read KWK COCO.

I wonder how long it was before he got arrested?:D

Personally, I don't care. I refuse to alter my lifestyle based on what some criminal might do.

Do my plates make me a target. Maybe... I'll live with consequences.

YMMV...

HOW ABOUT GUN-RELATED DECALS?

There was another forum thread about having gun decals on your vehicle. Much the same response as here. I'm a "give-em-warning" type. My little M Edition has tooled around Daytona Beach area for 4-5 years now with no dire consequences.

Of course I don't leave it parked overnight on a "bad" street, or large parking lot, just to test or tease my fellow-man. At night, if it ain't in the garage at home it's either parked where I can see it, or it's in the hands of a parking valet service.

Most Floridians - even the thieves and ne'er-do-wells - quickly recognize the star-on-shield decal of the Florida Sheriff's Association, and the NRA eagle. AND, both decals are also on the little vent window on the driver's side. 45Broomhandle

Yes, there IS a place for all of God's creatures: right next to the potatoes and gravy.
