state law prohibits CCW in MI where alcohol is served. i assume this arts festival will have some libations.

Unless you have CPL. If you have a CPL, you can OC or CC where alcohol is served. You can't carry when 50% of the revenue comes from alcohol. Even then, you can probably OC.

it's state law, and considering lots of folks act like imbeciles when intoxicated, prohibiting carry at these locations is probably the safest bet, unfortunately.

It sounds like the problem is the alcohol and not the carrying of firearms. Frankly those who take such a position should also advocate banning people from driving their cars to the event as well.
