Gun Rights Group Outraged that New Orleans Officials Confiscated Guns

I used to be a NRA guy. Then I noticed that it was mostly just a republickan fund raising organization.

They were going to let the "new improved AWB" go through to get the firearms commerce bill passed till the gun owners found out and pitched a fit.

Read the history. NRA was in favor of '34 NFA. Google it. It makes some interesting reading.

Sorry, I like an organization that concurs with my understanding of 2a.

I yam not a hunter. I have a shotgun, but I don't use it to shoot ducks.

GOA, NRA, etc: They're all good. I give a set amount to several, besides those.

The NRA is best at de-fanging Really Bad Legislation, in lobbying. GOA is more active in pro-gun lawsuits. Each has their style and their place. I don't put down any of them.

Compare this to the tepid response from the NRA and you'll see why GOA gets my check.

+1. The NRA should have filed state and federal lawsuits 2 days ago asking for emergency ex parte injunctions against the blatant violations of law including the 2A. They did not. I won't revoke my life membership in NRA because I enjoy getting the magazine, but they'll never get another dime from me. Any extra RKBA money is going to GOA without a doubt.

And don't tell me the courthouse is gone. There are many courts which would take it upon themselves to issue rulings on the subject, if asked to do so, in light of the disaster and lack of place for redress in the city of NO itself, whether another district court, the 5th circuit directly, other parish's state courts, etc.

I guess you didnt notice that about half of all shooting sports in this country are organized by the NRA. A fair portion of the new shooters in this country go to an NRA shooting class before purchasing a firearm, and children often get their first positive exposure to weapons from NRA funded competitions and educational organizations. Right now the biggest threat to the RKBA is outright apathy among people who dont care about guns one way or the other because they have no exposure outside what they see in movies. Now tell me, what other organizations are fighting this fight on such a fundamental level?

GOA is more active in pro-gun lawsuits.

Ive heard this before, but i cant find any record of such suits. Could you (or anyone else) provide some examples?

Yes, I noticed.

AARP is an insurance company too.

I would have joined a shooting/sportsmens club down here in the area until I found that I had to be an NRA member.

Insurance, it's the insurance. I guess.

So when is Mr. Pratt filing the lawsuits in behaf of GOA members who had their guns confiscated??

I think it's ligit question.

I doubt he will be able to actually find anyone that it happened to, so don't hold your breath on the lawsuits.

When this is settled, if there acually ARE victims of 2A abuse, both groups will work hard in court. Let's just wait and see if they can find a victim.

As for the organizations, I am a member of both GOA and NRA.

It's too bad there can't be one unified group, but since there isn't, I'm not willing to bet my 2A rights on which group will be able to do the best work, so I support both fully.

Your exactly right. There is no publicity of this organization in the media. If I was anti-gun I'd pretend like they didn't exist too!
I agree. The media doesn't want there to be anything more than the NRA. It is easier for them to deal with one-GUN_LOBBY rep. They have villified NRA as much as they can. Imagine if they had to "admit" that along with NRA, there was also GOA, CCRKBA, SAF, GPFO, and all the state rifle and pistol associations. Makes for messy agenda journalism.

As a point of historical perspective, remember the days and weeks after the Columbine shootings? NRA backed out of the non-board meeting portion of their annual meeting and was nowhere to be found on the talking head shows (that I saw, and I'm a news hound). Instead, there was GOA everywhere, making our points known. Erich and Larry Pratt go out there. NRA? Sometimes do, sometimes don't.

I'm a member of the NRA, GOA and VCDL (Virginia Citizens Defense League).

All three perform very well in their particular arena.

Hopefully someday we pro-2A people will learn to stop bickering among one another and realize each other's strengths. :banghead:

GOA is NRA's seeing-eye dog

The whole notion that some people are expressing here that they should support either GOA or NRA is completely misguided. GOA is an outfit whose job is to take the hard line and foam at the mouth, while NRA's job (which they have a lot of experience at I might add) is to compromise and desperately try to avoid seeming immoderate.

The genius of GOA is that they redefine the center and therefore move NRA closer to a pro-2a position. They also frighten legislators with cascades of letters and create a "Good cop-Bad cop" effect so that legislators are more eager to talk with NRA. This is one of those cases where the combination is much greater than the sum of the parts.

Yep, a false dilemma.

Its only a false dilemma if you happen to have an infinite amount of money to distribute to the cause. In the real world people have a finite amount of money to contribute. Assuming that the money is going to one or both of these organizations, a dollar to one is a dollar from the other.
