I'm new around here and thought maybe someone could help me out. Years ago I remember reading a story, or essay someplace about gun control in Great Britain. If I remember correctly, the piece started out leading the reader to believe that it was taking place in some futuristic setting and told of a "bad dream-type" incident in which the narrator was arrested, tried and incarcerated for what I think I remember being a self-defense situation. In the conclusion it is shockingly stated that this wasn't a futuristic fictional society, but actually took place in GB... maybe sometime in the 80s or 90s. I'm guessing that I read it about 10 or 11 years ago (about the time the Internet was new to me) and have thought about it many times over the years. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If so, I'd love to get my hands on it again.
Thanks,
Mark

Just thought I'd bring this up again in hopes of new eyes seeing it... If I'm remembering right it was really well-done. I'm almost positive it came to me via email, but I guess it could have been in a magazine.
Thanks,
-Mark

Sounds about typical. I read a news account last year of a UK woman who beat/chased one or more robbers out of her house with a cricket bat. The police asked where she kept the bat. She showed them where it always stayed behind the front door, and was promptly arrested and charged with "lying in wait."
