Gun safe humidity

Have been thinking about a gun safe lately and I have a question. Due to space limitations, I will need to leave the safe in the garage where temps and humidity change daily. My gun cabinet in the house is not lockable and wood is easy to break into anyway, even if I have a lock. So, looking into options. How do you control for humidity in a garage gun safe?

Or even a short string of old style incandescent christmas lights (and those have the bonus of lighting the safe). You need something that dissipates about 10 to 20 watts of power. I have 3 4-watt christmas lights and one 1-watt LED christmas light in one of safe and a 12W golden rod in the other.

I use 3 boxes of silicia dessicant 900 gram and two 450 gram amounts. Within the last few days I added a Liberty dehumidifier rod from Cabelas and my hygrometer has yet to go above 60% humidity on the wettest days.

I live in the balmy gulf coast of Texas and use two Eva-Dry 500 rechargeable dehumidifiers and I am two weeks over due recharging them and I just opened up my Amsec BF gun safe to check the humidity level after reading this thread and the gauge showed 59%.
No problems.
But an uninsulated garage probably needs the safe owner placing Golden Rods in it to give you the needed protection.

thats the best part of the golden rod, it tackles both the tempature and humidity in one shot. the dessicants only handle the humidity.

Hey Sniper,

Check local piano repair tech or Internet for a DamppChaser. 110v dehumidifier rod you can install and forget.

They've been on the market for decades in the piano world. Also, company called "Lock-Down" makes a similar 110v dehumidifier rod for gun safes.

Check Google, Amazon.com, other discount websites.

I have a 24 gun safe in the shed. We have serious humidity swings. I use TWO LockDown rods (as one gentleman stated its the same as the Golden Rod).

But I really like the Christmas lights idea for lighting.

I have my safe in the basement and had serious problems with mildew. Installed a goldenrod and problem went away.
