Gun safe options...

Hi, Im a 22 year old kid straight out of college and I dont have much money, Im pursuing a career in law enforcement atm, and I was wondering.. I live in a rural area so Im not too afraid of burglary, but I dont have the means right now to buy a 1000$ gun safe, so right now Im keeping my hand guns in a strong lockbox and my rifles & shotguns in a locked closet, should I drop the money on a safe, does anyone know of a cheaper alternative?
