Gun Safe Room Oh My!

Mine is pretty basic- sheathed on both sides with OSB and sheet rock. Solid core security door with a deadbolt. Safes inside. bolted to the floors, walls and each other. There is also a motion sensor inside the room, in case they get past the other alarms.

The truth of the matter is that it won't stop a dedicated thief, but it will take time while (hopefully) the armed response units are on the way.

A friend of my Dad's bragged on how secure his setup was at home. A bank safe built into the basement. The guys that stole his guns just hid next to his garage and put a gun to his head and made him open the safe. I guess that is what the "silent panic" code is for on the alarm system.

Agree nothing will stop everone. My roomate assisted in a security system instal for a art gallery.. I didn't help at all. When they were done we went to look it over. (from public area just like anyone else)
In ONE walk thru I was able to show them how I could bypass the entire system. (and it was 3 layers with vidio) Two more motion sensors and short of knowing where to cut thru floor/ceiling into control room/having idea how stuff is wired I couldn't beat it... Someone who knows about that stuff likly could without working up a sweat.

A (realistic) method is (if there is basement) to use a exterior corner for two sides, cement up third side/door frame and put in a vault door. Then put a wall across either a fake wall or make it a closet/walk in with stuff piled against. (person looking inside with flashlight should think its the exterior wall if it is made of same look) Do NOT forget the ceiling.
The last thing is to put a standard gun safe bolted down outside that area. Put your daily "cheaper" guns in it. Let them waste their time on this and if they do bring enough tools/time to break in they will think they got it all. Instead they get a 10/22, old 12 guage,etc..
