sold a rifle at the beginning of august online to someone. he didn't have all the $ together and asked to pay half ($750) up front and said he would send the remainder by end of month, or I could keep the gun and first half. We're a week into september already. i don't have any contact info for him and haven't heard from him since the first payment. I still have the gun, of course.

given that I don't want to screw the guy, but want my money...

what's a reasonable "grace period" to wait before I list the gun for sale again? 2 weeks? a month? 6 days ago?

You don't have ANY contact info? No return address on the money order or whatever he sent you? Even if it was paypal you can contact the buyer.
Also, check your junk/spam email folder. They often catch emails that are not junk or spam, especially for someone that hasn't written you much!
Other than that i'd wait a couple weeks (a month after previous sale) before relisting it.

Do you need the money immediately? If so, then just follow the agreement and repost the rifle. Business deal is a business deal.

I would give the guys money back should he contact me later since I 'm not in the gun selling business.

However you contacted him in the past I would contact him again via that route and let him know that you intend to put the gun up for sale in the next 3 weeks if he doesn't contact you. Sell the gun and let him know that you plan to keep a reasonable amount of his deposit.

i never contacted him. he called me. no emails.

thanks,

I rather doubt that anyone would abandon a deal that they have put $750 into .

Not having contact information for him is at best not a good idea , and hard to imagine you can't obtain it somehow ?

I would get creative on methods to contact the buyer, have patience, and it should work itself out within the next couple weeks. As said, make darn sure your spam filter is'nt blocking buyers e-mails and go find his contact inormation somehow. If nothing happens by the end of Sept than putting it back up for sale would be OK in my opinion, but I would try hard to not let that happen.

Deal is a deal, want to be nice wait till the 15th put the gun back for sale the1/2 payment is yours fo the inconvience caused as the buyer agreed.

What was the method of payment? Did you cash the check or money
order? Sometimes it takes quite awhile for the check to finally bounce.
This sort of feels like a scam. The next move they usually make is to call
back with some hard-luck story and ask for a partial refund; you keep some
money for your trouble. Then the instrument he sent comes back as a forgery
and you are out whatever you sent. If he has not completed this step; perhaps
he got jailed.
