Gun Sales Skyrocketing?

Any of you people get the
Buds e mail on sales?

Said they broke all time sales record from 2003.

There's a big problem here.

I can't keep a lot of popular items in stock.

What this means: I can't reorder them either. So instead of making X profit on a gun 5 times, I have to make X profit on a gun ONCE.

Between the economy and the fact that it's election year there has been a considerable rise.

I love it :)

Do you think the politicians are noticing this? This sends a stronger message than anything I could think about. No ambiguous polls, no propaganda, just raw undisputed, factual, economic power. Bad day for the gun control crowd.

I sell at least 1 rock river operator/LMT/AK47 century variant per four hour shift at a large non corporate gun store in the Chicagoland area.

Also 1-2 handguns per 4 hour shift, mostly striker fired semi autos.

A lot of people are purchasing SD marketed shotguns and smaller sized revolvers, smith j frames, taurus .38/357 and LCRs.

Not sure on the ammo sales as its in a different area but they move it quickly.

around here in east tn gun sales are slow, all the shops are stocked, at least the ones i patron, and the rk shows people are mostly only selling, not buying. you could buy a pick-up load of ar's just from the individuals. can't sell a gun unless you give it away. i couldn't get 650.00 for a commander stainless box and papers at the last show.

The reason guns are flying off the shelves like Wonka Bars is that people are afraid of future restrictions imposed by this anti-Second-Amendment administration. For example, the UN is due to have its Arms Trade Treaty completed this summer, and Obama has made it perfectly clear that he fully supports curtailing Americans' firearm freedoms.
I don't think so. Just like the fear that went with Obama's election driving gun sales but proving to be pointless, I really don't think this is where fear lies. At least not with the majority of buyers.
But I do think that fear is driving the trend for two reasons. As america's median age increases, more and more people are becoming concerned about defending themselves and their belonging. They have more stuff to defend, are less physically able, and have and spend more time worrying about it.
Also, the recent fear of economic failure, in some cases doomsday scenarios but more frequently just the general angst of a very weak economy, so many unemployed, and the very dark and dire news that is constantly broadcasted has people fearing for themselves and the future.
In both cases, this fear is driving gun sales as well.

This is actually quite helpful. You're probably one of the best qualified to provide an answer regarding the roots of this trend. So just to probe a bit, do you have a sense of what all of these people plan to do with them? You probably have to cut through their rhetoric half the time, but do you think its home defense? For their 'bug out bags' (I'm laughing but I'm not kidding), for their cars? Are they deploying and they want to buy something that isn't being issued? Or do they just want to head to the range and/or knock off a bucket list item?

My favorite gun shop almost looks like they are going out of business with empty shelf's and gun racks. Another Pawn/Gun shop has same issue as far as ordering and don't have a clue when they will be restocked. Glad I got all mine now.

We've had record numbers of people joining our gun club in the last 6 months. Orientation on Sunday usually has 6-8 people thinking about joining. Last 6 months, a typical Sunday will have 20-30 people.
I see a lot of new faces at the pistol range with brand spanking new handguns on a regular basis.

Local gun shops have been packed. Ranges have been packed. So, I guess sales are up.
Meh... I recently joined a local private gun range and found out that they have a 10% turnover rate per month. That's pretty high.

We disconnected our cable TV feed 11 years ago and still don't miss the local "crime report" that passes for news. It's all about shock value and contrived drama - love that gloom and doom they do...

in some cases doomsday scenarios

Well reasoning people recognize that restrictive regulations regarding firearms is much more probable than Armageddon. They buy that AK now because if they wait three years they might not be able to get it or afford it because of new laws and regulations, not because a meteor might slam into the Earth or the government might collapse.

Kind of expect this in an election year, especially when people are getting their tax returns. I hope it doesn't get as bad as it was when Obama was elected the first time. If he gets in again, I have a horrible feeling it will be worse, with conservatives fearing the lame duck prez burying the hatchet on gun rights.

I read this thread with mixed emotions.

Bad for my hobby

Good for my rights.

Gun prices going up hurts my already too thin wallet but if guns are more popular, more people on our side.

I would like to say though, that this is a critical time for the more experienced of the "gun crowd" to be helpful to the newbies. I see too many people making fun of and trying to avoid the "mall ninjas and video gamers". With so many new people getting into firearms we need to do what we can to train them correctly.

Someone posted that it is a bad day for the anti gun folks, and I agree. I just hope there is not an increase in bad publicity from people uneducated with guns having accidents (ND). This may be the one thing the antis can han their hat on. Some of you saw that idiot on the TV show "Doomsday Preppers" shoot his finger off. That is the kind of stuff that comes along with a sudden increase in gun ownership.

Try to take a newbie under your wing and teach them right

Some people just can't be educated about guns. Case in point, my son, just went out yesterday and bought a Hi-point 9mm. Pistol did not make it out of the box without breaking, rear sight broke off the mount. Man that is a piece of junk.

I don't know what is causing it but something has stimulated the market. Ammo here in the Northwest is dwindling and the demand for firearms is definitely up.

Got an email from them stating that they're anticipating yet another run-on-the-market. And to consider buying ahead as shortages are anticipated.

Is it a ploy to promote sales, or something else?

If gasoline reaches about $4.50-$5.00/gal. this summer, either people will drive less, or there will be fewer gun sales.

It has already gone over $4.00/gallon in some parts of the country. The price locally went up about $0.10 today. Man. That is a lot! I did something I never do and that is I got home from work after seeing most gas stations up 8-10 cents today, I drove my other vehicle down and filled it up. Need it tomorrow and from the way things are going, the price will be up again in the morning... It's killing me!

The gas price thing is going to drag the entire economy down in a couple months if prices do not start going back down soon. Everything is going to get more expensive by 5-10%. There is tremendous pressure to raise prices now.

I missed a local gun show last weekend. I heard it was quite busy. I wanted to go, but had to work. I would rather make money than spend money which is what I almost always do at shows.
