Hey you guys and gals in SoCal,

Have a couple of female friends in the Ontario/Rancho area I'll be visiting in December. They want to look into getting a home defense weapon that they'll be comfortable shooting, and will practice with. they asked me to take them to a gun shop while I'm out there.

Know any good gun shops in that area, that can help new female shooters work through the decision process?

Thannks in advance,

Dude - I live in Maryland, and most of the people who work the gun counter...errr....aren't people who can give good advice on a first gun purchase. Most are hunters, who only know about the gun they hunt with. Maybe it's different in Louisiana, you're lucky if so!

yeah here most are hunters, ex-police, and previous FFL holders...also if u cant find anything else no harm in asking..are u looking for a pistol or longgun?

Remember opinions are like a holes everyone has one and everyone thinks their crap dont stink. If you have a local range that they can rent weapons out thats gonna be a great option, hard to know what the right weapon is for you when you have a sales clerk breathing down your neck and you get the GUN FEVER going. Make sure when you go to a store that they handle a lot of guns checking out only a few is just not enough you need to fondle fondle and then fondle some more.

There is Turners Outdoorsman they will be in West Covina, Chino Hills area or San Bernardino not too far. Bass Pro is a hunting store and the gun selection reflects that. Duarte has Gun Runners they are more HD but may not have the selection of the big Turners. Buckeye guns IIRC is in the Glendora area near Gladstone and Grand. Has a small reasonable priced used section. If it were me I would go to Fowlers in Orange. A little drive but you will find a good selection and almost friendly staff. Across the street from them is Ade's small store, weird hours, good people and small selection of used guns and can order most any gun prices are spotty. Bright Spot Pawn out in Redlands area has a good rep and decent selection. You might try Magnum Range in Rancho I have had no luck there but worth a try as you can shoot there as well. PM me if you want to shoot outdoors at Lytle Creek on the weekend or Burro through the the week.

Thanks Slacker. I'll forward the shops and areas you mentioned to them, and we'll see where they want to look!
