There are just a few gunshops in the greenville area most of them are pawnshops other than allen arms,Besu Guns and Tony's when i buy any handguns i really dont trust pawn shops.

The best gunshop in Greenville is Freedom Gun located at 4008 White Horse Rd. Give them a try. The owner is Dexter........great guy .....huge selection. Tell him Curt sent you:)

I have been there they are kind of expensive the one i have like the best is Besu Guns in simpsonville they have low prices and the have alot of accessories not just guns.

FYI.....Tony's is out of business now. He was way outta line on prices. Besu in Simpsonville is a wannabe Police Supply Store with a small gun inventory.
I have bought at Freedom, Traders Gunshop in Taylors,SC and Dewey's Pawn off Old Augusta Rd. and Freedom has them all beat on selection and price.

Traders on Wade Hampton.

Luthi's on Washington Street.
It's a pawn shop, but they treat you right.

Both shops have fair prices.

I have not been to dewey's but i have been to traders they dont have any respect for any costumers and they have high prices i rather stick with shops that appreciate there customers. FYI

T&K Outdoors has the absolute lowest prices I have found on brand new firearms, anywhere in SC. He is pretty much a one-man outfit in a trailer off John Dodd Road in Inman, so he has very little overhead...but passes the savings on to his customers (prices are consistantly 15% lower than other dealers in the area). If you need a new gun I would definately buy it from T&K. The only problem is that he only deals in new firearms, and does not take trade-ins.

Allen Arms in Greenville is way overpriced, as is their range.

Fast Cash Pawn shop on 221 in Chesnee is a step up from your typical pawn shop. The guys there are pretty friendly, even if they can't always tell you a lot about what's in the case. Prices are pretty good too, as is their selection of used firearms.

The Sportsman in Rock Hill has average pricing, but a large rental case of firearms and an indoor range. They also give 30 days free range time with any gun purchase, which I like because it encourages new gun owners to become familiar with what they just purchased. Most of the staff is friendly and helpful. The range is cheaper than most ($10 per hour), and they allow you to bring your own ammo, and keep your own brass, as any range ought to. No rapid fire or rifle calibers though.

Teague's Pawn on Cherry Road in Rock Hill is a pawn shop, but it's clean, well-lighted, and has a friendly staff. Their prices on new guns are around MSRP (which is rare for a pawn shop IME), and used guns are usually priced fairly.

In Spartanburg, Dunbar & Zimmerli Outfitters has guns priced a bit higher than others, but they have assisted me in returning two guns to the factory at no expense, and have given me good prices on guns I bought from them and later traded in on more expensive guns. Camp Croft Pawn has been hit-or-miss for me; some of the stuff in there is a good deal but other items are overpriced. He includes tax on all guns though, so if you can make it there on tax free weekend and ask nicely, you'll get a pretty good cash discount.

Academy Sports often has guns at wholesale prices (or below), but you can expect the same extra paperwork hassle and uninformed staff as with most large chain stores.

Avoid the Southern Sportsman and Personal Security Supplies, both in Boiling Springs. Also avoid David's Pawn and Rock Hill Pawn in Rock Hill. David's has a friendly staff, but outrageous prices. RH Pawn is run by a bunch of *******s and idiots, and has outrageous prices. Last time I went to RH Pawn (and it will be the last time), they had a beat-up police trade in Glock 22 in the case for $625. Gen 2, 2 mags, dead night sights, 80% or less finish, and $100 more than a NIB Gen 3 G22 would cost.

I'll add one that hasn't been mentioned yet; Wheaton Arms was just opened off I85 exit 40 by a guy named Robbie Wheaton, who used to work at Allen Arms doing gunsmithing of some sort.

The owners of Freedom Gun shop, Allen Arms, and Wheaton Arms are all active in the local match scene, at least from time to time depending on the individual and schedule.

The fellow who has been doing my transfers since I moved here has recently opened a storefront on Highway 14 in Greer, a couple of miles west of I-85.

James Firearms - Chris is a good guy!

Grady's Great Outdoors in Anderson has a pretty good selection and fair prices. Sort of a mini version of Bass Pro Shops. I have bought 3 or 4 guns from them and they have good sales every few months.

No Chrome......I'm not an employee or family member. I've bought many guns from Freedom and always got a good deal. Bottom line.

Smokey (or anyone),

Is there a way to get info on Grady's sales & specials? They have a real cool shop, but Anderson is a haul to just stop in.

John Wayne-I agree with your assesment of all the Spartanburg area shops as I live here too. One other place to check is Inman Gun and Pawn. They have a constant flow of different items and have pretty much Sig everything. Very friendly staff and prices are competative. Wish we had more ranges in this area also. Be careful of some shops as if you buy a gun and it's not right and you take it back, they will PRORATE your refund price. Don't think that's fair but how do you know it's not right till you shoot it? JMO

John81276,
Grady's has a website that has always has there current sales circular. Google "Grady's Great Outdoors."

I saw the s&w bodyguard 38 at the gunshop in simpsonville today i think thats my next gun i also like the walther pk380 with laser they had for my wife.

With permission, I'll add this for the South Carolina folks. Does anyone know where you can obtain an actual list of the handguns that are not allowed for sale in shops in S.C.? I have a 2011 price guide and when I find something interesting, it turns out you can't get it here. Very frustrating to do the research for an unobtainable item. I know you can get cryptic info from SLED but I would like to see something more specific.

Check out Lawsons Outfiters in Laurens. The last 20 weapons I purchaed came from there because they have the lowest prices I have been able to find in the upstate. Sometimes thay have great inventory selection and other time you may have to order but they certainly have good prices either way.

I used to travel the state a lot more, than I do now. Seems like White Jones(?) in Anderson had fair prices and good selection. Haven't been there in years.

Nichols Store just below Rock Hill has good selection, they are adding on to the business, but I don't know how much will be devoted to firearms. Cash is king.

+1 on Lawson Outfitters, I stop in there when nearby. I've called them up looking for something and if they have it they will mail it to me. Good service.

So far my favorite gunshops are traders and besu guns traders has a good selection but besu guns prices are a little lower and they have alot of accesories.I just ordered a gen 4 glock 30 from Besu they had it for the next day and they gave me a free box of ammo. And Allen Arms has a nice range but there guns are way to high the highest i have seen. I guess they make there money on range fees.

AFAIK, there is no such list. Only states like California have to approve firearms for sale. Everything that's federally legal is legal to sell in South Carolina. Maybe you saw SC listed and that person meant "Southern California?"

Now, certain manufacturers may not allow their products to be sold in certain states...but that is not a law. I'm not aware of any manufacturers with this practice either. I shoot in competitions, and a lot of the guys there run STI 2011s like you mentioned. I believe they are all SC residents as well, and did not mention any difficulties in acquiring those pistols.

No restrictions AFAIK aside from Saturday-night specials, no modern gun of common brand should be restricted though.

SECTION 23-31-180. Certain pistols declared to be contraband; forfeiture, seizure, and destruction; disposal restrictions; use for display.
No licensed retail dealer may hold, store, handle, sell, offer for sale, or otherwise possess in his place of business a pistol or other handgun which has a die cast, metal alloy frame or receiver which melts at a temperature of less than eight hundred degrees Fahrenheit.

Ruger makes some good handguns i like the sr-9,lcr, and the lcp for a 380 is not bad its the smallest 380 i have seen.Glock is still my favorite.
