I was just wondering if anyone thats's familiar with the area or even better if there are some of the locals that can pitch in about where is the best place to purchase firearms around MCAS Cherry Point, NC. I was at walmart the other day and noticed that they still sell firearms at this location, every walmart back home gave up on there gun sales. And if anyone knows when then next gun show that's coming around that would be great too. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a rifle and 12 ga that i can use to go hunting with this coming fall. Any information is greatly appriacated, thank you.

There are several great pawn shops along 70. Also there is a good shop in New Bern. In Hubert, near Swansboro, there is Flatwoods Outfitters. In Newport there is a shop. I suggest just getting out and driving around. Stop at all Pawn shops. Do a search on Google for Gun Shows in NC and you will find info. pertaining to that area.

There is a good gun shop in Newport, and East 70 Pawn on 70 near New Bern often has a good selection of used guns, including EBR's. The B&R Range in Havelock (200 yard, pistol and rifle, separate shotgun section, matches twice a month) also has a gun shop, and while small, they usually have a good selection of guns (including lots of EBR's) at pretty good prices.
There is a gun show that circulates between New Bern, Kinston, and Jacksonville, so it hits within driving distance once a month or so. Selection is fair, but it's not very big. The gun show in Raleigh (~3 hours west of you) is reportedly much bigger and better, but I've never been.
Are you going to be stationed at Cherry Point? If you are a Marine, I think there is a range and gun club on base, but it's not open to civilians so I've never looked into it.
FWIW, not sure if you're aware of this, but Sgt. Carlos Hathcock (legendary Marine sniper in Vietnam) was stationed at Cherry Point for years, and his wife is/was from New Bern.
