Went to the gun show in town this weekend and as I wondered around, found a feller selling bags of STHP's for the 44. Wanted $75 a bag of 50.

I stopped and had to congratulate him. He asked why and I told him that he was able to quote that price without a touch of shame on his face. Didn't even hang his head nor scuff his shoe.

I talked to a friend of mine who went back Sun. just before closing and he still had all those STHP,s.

Saw an $80 box of Fed 205M! About $42 for large pistol. Not to mention the $75 boxes of .22LR. Thankfully I saw no one buying this stuff. Should be a dying trend as I was at one in Houston on Saturday before the doors opened and there were maybe 100 people waiting to get in.

I don't go to gun shows anymore because the prices here are stupid expensive.

I'm not sure why. Perhaps it is something to do with the high table fees.

^^^ agreed. It's hard to find a "deal" anymore at a gun show. One of our local gunshop owners will have a booth and sell all his wares at prices higher than you'll find back in his shop! I guess they figure when guys come in to gun shows, they think they're going to get a good deal. When they see the prices, they can;t remember what they should be paying and so they buy anyway.

I wouldn't worry about it. You are the only one getting high blood pressure over it.

Gee, it wouldn't have anything to do with his extra costs like table rental, food, time away from his shop, gas to haul everything to the show and on and on.......

That's quite a revelation that nobody has thought of yet.

And I appreciate it. but let me ask: If you knew your gun shop dealer sold certain dies at say, $30. Yet when you went by to get a set, he ws gone (to the gun show). So you go to the gun show, pay a $5 entry fee, and see your dealer there. The dies are priced at $36.50. Do you buy them there? Or...wait 'til Monday and go to his shop where they'll be $30 ? Say, perhaps, that you need two or three sets. Buy now? Or later?

(All hypothetical, of course, with prices and items and days of the week just made up so an analogy can be made) :)D)

Seems to me the OP was just making conversation. He started a thread and wanted to hear our thoughts. I didn;t sense any high blood pressure from him, but your comments now....... do you have high blood pressure?

Do I sense the possibility of a couple of gun shop owners who, maybe recently, returned from a very unsuccessful gun show event? Had to haul back every primer, pounds of powder, all the brass, and everything else that they hauled over there?

I figger I'd offer him $30 and hand over the money, saving me a stop on Monday ;)

Well, that's the ideal scenario, of course. But!! After he paid for the booth, gas, extra time to get there, and since he doesn't need to accept your offer before you hand over the money, why not then offer him $23.50? Offer, drop down the cash and coin, and walk away with the product. That kills two birds with one stone! (You could go lower of course, say $5, drop the cash and walk out with the dies, but let's have a conscience now)

I figure if say a fellow doesn't really need some large rifle primers, but would like to add to his stock. If he's willing to pay $40, or $60, or $75, or more for these primers, more power to him. I mean, this thread is, after all, about the sometimes exhorbitant prices found at some gun shows.

I live in Westchester county NY. The County Center here has two shows per year. It cost $13 to enter! The place is crawling with LE and it just is not a fun place to enjoy this hobby.

Pols have tried to stop these shows by passing legislation. They hate gun shows.

I stopped going a few years ago. Vendors just want to skin you alive with high prices.
