Well this thing followed me home from the gun show today. I sold a pistol so I had some cash, and I have been craving a levergun for awhile. I looked at a beautiful winchester 94, not a scratch on it, and a 16" barrel. He wanted $600 and I think that is a fair price but I didn't have the cash. Another guy had a marlin .44mag with a cheap tasco scope. It wasn't elevated and it got in the way when you wanted to put the hammer down. Plus it wasn't cleaned up and was only in fair shape. He wanted $375, I thought that was a little high though I did really want one in a pistol caliber for ease or reloading and cheaper to shoot too. But, this other fella walked by with this model 30A. Great condition, the bore is perfect, and the stock and metal are clean. Has a weaver scope and the see-through mounts so I can still use the iron sights. Any other scope I would take it off and put a peep on it, but I have a soft spot for weavers and it is crystal clear and has a duplex. A few normal dings on the fore stock but no big deal. He wanted $325 and I thought that was a good deal considering the condition and the scope/mounts. I know back east everybody has one of these things but out west there aren't as many (though not uncommon) and I have seen them go lately for between $300-$350 without the scope and in fair condition. Besides within 100 yards the .30-.30 will drop anything we have in AZ and I think this will be a sweet shooter. Anyway I am pumped. Here are some pics:

Wanker I think you did just fine. A 30-30 is one of the best , most useful rounds you can get. Also the Marlin is the king of 30-30 rifles.

I would rather have have your lever gun than any AR, AK, SKS, Mini or any other 30 caliber semi-auto rifle. I hope you reload or plan to reload. The 30 WCF is easy on powder. Doesn't need a 75 cent bullet to work and is not real picky on what powder it likes.

It isn't a powerhouse round. Doesn't make a good 400 yard rifle but will keep you in venison and protect your home if needed. Go shoot it and report back about how it performs.

T'd be a Glenfield, wouldn't it? But same thing. Nice job. They are getting really pricey last 2 years. Dang, shoulda hung onto mine. Congrats. :)

I'm not sure how to tell other than it just says marlin on it and not glenfield anywhere. Made in North Haven CT. I don't know much about marlins.

Definetely. My dad has a model 94 so he reloads for that. I shot my first deer with that rifle. Actually last time I was up I reloaded a hundred rounds for him...anyway I love the caliber I was just wanting a pistol caliber because reloading is much faster and cheaper. Guess I'll have to get a set of dies for myself now.
