Gun Shows, cash only?

Actually, the agreement says we can't charge the customer for using the credit card. The agreement doesn't prohibit us from giving a discount to a cash customer. Because of the whiners out there I don't give a discount for customers paying cash, everyone can pay the higher price.

I prefer to buy from a private individual ( not a dealer ) whenever possible. And pay with cash. I hand him the dough, he hands me the gun, and we part ways. My name isn't on any piece of paper anywhere, even a check, that ties me to ownership of the firearm. Just think it's a good thing to have some guns that nobody knows I have.

One problem you have buying from an individual is that if it is a stolen firearms and you are caught with it, you have no proof you bought it. The police might think you are the theif, especially if you give a vague answer that you bought if form some guy you don't know at the gunshow.

Everything I ever bought at a gunshow, I paid for with a check. Guns, ammo, whatever. If a dealer doesn't want to take a check, no problem. After all, I don't have to buy it. You'd be surprised how walking away will often get a "Wait a minute, let's see your ID."

The laws pertaining to sales tax don't change depending on whether the payment is rendered in cash or by credit card. What your dealer pointed out to you is that he cheats by hiding or fudging the numbers on cash sales, which he can't do on a credit card transaction because there's a paper trail.

Apparently a majority of gun people (based on a previous thread I started regarding the impropriety of the surcharge on use of credit cards) don't seem to find anything wrong with dealers breaking the law if it saves them a few bucks. Personally, I have a problem with it.

all the more reasons to get rid of income tax and implement a nation wide sales tax on goods and services on the retail level.

It's easy enough to fix that, have them show ID and record the information. If I'm still suspicious I'll have a dealer do a transfer and fill out all the forms.
It scares them away pretty quick.

Now he ask you for your ID, to protect himself. I don't see much difference in completing the 4473 in the first place.
