Gun Store called

Decided that I had bought enough guns for a while, so was taking a break. That is, until my LGS called to let me know that a 1st Generation Charter Bulldog .44 had just come in on trade. I'm pretty impressd that they remembered I was on the prowl for one of these guns and gave me a call.

The gun is in good condition with Pachmayr rubber grips and dates to the early 80s. Price was $269, so I put it on layaway.

I can't pick it up until next month because used guns have a 30-day quarantine around here.

Nice pick up. I like my old CA Bulldog. I still have the original wooden grips.

Forgot to add that this will be Charter #6 for me.

My daily carry is my current production Bulldog .44 with wood grips "borrowed" off of my vintage Police Bulldog .38. I love that gun!

Nice. I saw one just like it in pawn last week. It wasn't the tightest gun around but it wasn't beat up. There were a couple of things that turned me away, $550 for one, and a suspicious plum hue to the blue finish which made me think re-finish.

I have an old charter mag pug I bought from my uncle when he retired. The gun is a wonderful shooter for a 2" barrel. I hope you enjoy your old charter as much as I have enjoyed mine. Try to find wood or ivory grips for it. You will find the gun is much easier to handle.

I had an Undercover dating back to the mid '70's. It was purchsed new and under certain lighting conditions had a slight plum hue to it. I also had an H&K P7 that had the same coloration. I wrote to the factory and they said it's due to a slight variation in the heat treatment when the gun was made and occured when the gun was blued. Nothing wrong with gun, just a minor cosmetic issue.

And your right, $550 for a Bulldog that's not quite up to par would have me walking away too.

I seen something like that chambered for 9mm rimmed cartridge. Not bad if one can roll their own BRASS.

i wish i could find an older bulldog to try out, i have a 642 for trade should i find one that i deem properly fitted and timed. the older bulldogs seem to have a better chance at that.

Bikemutt, that is a premium price for that gun, in fact it's more than MSRP. The plum color turns up on more than just Charter Arms guns like said above, Rugers come to mind for me.
