As I watched the assorted talking heads decrying the sunset of the AWB one thing stood out the most to me. They almost always used gun crime, gun deaths, and gun violence as if that type of crime was some how much worse than all the other types of crime.
Outside of the fact that they are more intersted in banning guns than anything else why do they focus so on the instrument of crime than the perpetator of the crime?

Because they think that by banning the gun, you will eliminate that category of crime, or severely reduce it.

They do not focus as much on the perpetrator because the current thinking about the perp in that particular group of people is that all crime is based on treatable mental illness, not some deviant, evil intent of the person doing the criminal act. In other words, they are blameless for what they are doing due to mental illness. When they talk about the perp, its in the context of getting that person treated for the mental illness, or alternatives to incarceration so that that person is not removed from their family and loved ones and remians ( in their minds) a "productive" member of society.

Since they are in the business of advocating unconstitutional laws and victimizing innocent people in the name of 'reducing crime'...

Why not go door to door and arrest and lock up all young black males. Violent crime of ALL types will instantly drop by 50% according to DOJ stats which is more than any worthless gun ban could hope to accomplish.

Of course no leftwing communist will admit their plans for gun control are just as discriminatory and oppressive as the one I outlined. Damn hypocrites.

It's about control.

Gun crime, gun violence is a mental illness needing extensive government intervention and caring. Why would felons get a vote otherwise? Their nanny is a good guy.

If you see something fishy, call the authorities.
If someone is accosting you, call the police.
If you felt threatened, you should have called the authorities rather than taken care of the situation yourself, now Mr......., you get to spend some time in the fed/state/county institution.

Zero tolerance at schools. Can't point a finger, it may be loaded. No gun related t-shirts, hats etc as it may cause violence, or encourage one to act aggressively.
Zero tolerance at airports, including heroism.
Zero tolerance in regards to smoking in or near public areas. It's nannies everywhere.

Teacher, teacher, you forgot to give us homework.

The zero tolerance mentality is made up of weak knee types, unable to make an independent decision as to the intent of an individuals actions. Therefore we must arrest and let the authorities deal with the miscreant. Unfortunately these weak minded types seem to be getting all the press and encouragement. Hailed as saviors of our schools, neighborhood, city, and country by those in charge of distributing the public monies.

The violence these people are afraid of, I think is a self fulling prophecy, as the individual gets frustrated by all the "goodie-goodie" crap and blows up or goes postal. They get in your face and tell you what is wrong with you and pre suppose a cure. Or assume they know what's best for you, the individual, and condescendingly say so.

They are everywhere and are willing to "pile on" as soon as you make one of them uncomfortable. All that requires is a small challenge to their perceived authority like "I don't understand, does that make sense to you?" they have no answer.

Hate crime is another category developed to further enhance the state's powers to control. Crime is already a crime, no adjective is going to make it moreso, including the word "gun", it's merely a category for data collection.
Another category needing more money, studies, a staff and special agents to compile stats and investigate for congress to codify.

The charade of gun removal is purely feel good stuff for those not able to think things out to a reasonable conclusion. It's a money game for the politicians. Whoever is in office, has the money. Not their own but other people's money in the form of tax dollars.

Personal responsibility must be done away with and complete control given over to the state. Accountibiltiy for ones actions is only useful for transgressions against the state.

You will be assimilated, resistance is futile.
In the future all the good guys will wear RFID's.
Those without will cease to matter.

My keyboard is smoking,

Thank for the replies, but I'm still confused. Crime is bad, how is it made worse by an implement? Is a person somehow less murdered by a knife? Doesn't a strong arm robbery always begin with an injury?
