I'm surprised I didn't find reference to this with the search function. We lost Jerry Ahern last Tuesday (7/24) in Georgia, after a battle with cancer. He was 66.
He's probably best remembered as a gun writer for publications such as Handguns, and for his post-apocalyptic adventure series: The Survivalist.
While it's not Charles Dickens, I still enjoyed The Survivalist, and wish I still had my full run of the paperbacks. When I got the news of Jerry's death, I went to Barnes and Noble and downloaded the first book (Total War). I hope that his wife, Sharon, is still receiving royalties.
I met Jerry at Dragon Con back in the 1990s and thought he was a heckuva nice guy: very polite and patient with fanboys. I'll miss his articles and his blog postings. I had still entertained hopes of running into him again at a con and having a beer.
Sadly,
Dirty Bob
