i've always been an ebay guy but i've heard a while ago they ban sales of parts for real firearms such as barrels and stuff. i'm looking for another site where you can bid and pretty much similar to ebay but guns and parts. i came across http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=91956635 for my next mod. feed back on different sites would be great. thanks.

Gunbroker, Gunsamerica, and Auction Arms are the three premier gun auction sites, (although Gunsamerica is not an auction but a want adds format), on the web. I have used all three and highly recommend any and all.

I have only used gunbroker, no bad expirences, but just like ebay, do your research and know what your bidding on.

I have made many successful transactions on Gunbroker. From pistols, semi auto rifles, and mags. Do a little research and know what the value of your purchase(verses what you are willing to pay). Read the sellers feedback and remember it is buyer beware. If you miss a purchase this time around don't sweat it.. There is another right around the corner.

I would advise folks looking on gunbroker to check the specific sites for pistols, (like sigforum, glocktalk, etc, etc.).

It is easier to tell who you're buying from, and they often have more realistic information, pictures, and much, much better pricing.

I'v used Gunbroker, but find them not to generally be much of a deal. The best deals I have done through want ads on the better gun forums. The bigger (and wider interest) the forum, the more careful you have to be.

I've used Gun Broker several times for parts, reloading stuff and magazines. I've had good luck finding hard to find things there (magazine for a 40 S&W Firestar). Their prices may not always be the best; but, they offer quite a variety.

AuctionArms tends to be a little less travelled than GunBroker.

As a seller, I prefer AuctionArms. As a buyer, I find the increased traffic of GunBroker to be appealing.

I can't use gunbroker anymore, they canceled my account because they want an email address from someplace that doesn't give out free email accounts.
They suggest using my Internet service provider.
The problem: AOL, my ISP, now gives out free email accounts. I couldn't even complain without an account. Guess they don't want my business.

Ebay is going to crap. They did kick off a large number of firearm accessories sellers after Virginia Tech. There are still a few members winging it by not including evil key words like "AR15" into the titles. Some of these auctions get taken down while others see completion.

Their newest set of fees and rule proposals are driving away more mainstream people and there have been several boycotts. You cannot leave buyers feedback with the new proposals. This is good on one hand because many people (myself included) were afraid to leave negative feedback for sellers because they can retaliate and negative you as well unjustifiably. That means many sellers would have a much worse feedback profile, but buyers didn't want to get a negative feedback in return so they don't leave feedback at all.

On the flip side, as a buyer, my feedback rating will never go up unless I give ebay money to sell things as only sellers can get feedback. This means new and unestablished members will be required to sell with ebay if they want anything higher than a "0" feedback. Selling is required to build a feedback portfolio. Whereas in the past buyers would basically use ebay "for free", the new system for all practical purposes requires ebay users to pay ebay for services to build up their feedback just so they can buy. Many sellers don't allow no/low feedback buyers to participate.

I have been buying and selling on gunbroker since they first started. Every once in a blue moon I get a non paying bidder, other than that I have had no problems.

Auction arms has very little traffic and the only items that sell there are cheap things. I do not bother listing there unless I have stuff that I need to dump.

Gunsamerica was a good place before they changed it. It is now very confusing to buy or sell there so I stopped listing on that site.

JohnMc- I am registered on GB and have bought and sold using my hotmail account.

signed up today and the only thing that caught my attention was that i had to give out my credit card info... i'll read more about it before using it.

They use your CC to verify you are who you say you are. They also will use it to pay your account when you sale a item.

They do not give your CC numbers out to anyone you buy a item from. I get all kind of newbies that think their auction is automatically paid for when they win.

SaxonPig,
I was off a bit (darned memory anyway, think twice speak once). If you have a freebie email you need to leave credit card info.
I didn't want to do that, nor do I think my employer's email use policy allows online auctioneering.
Here's gunbroker's requirements (emphasis added by me, because AOL is my ISP):

ISP Email Address

* Your ISP Email Address should be the email address assigned to you by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for your connection to the internet at your home or business. You can also specify a work email address, such as the email address given to you at your place of business.
* Your ISP Email Address is what we verify by sending out the registration code and instructions on verifying that the email address is valid. We must do this for security reasons.
* The ISP Email Address address should not be a Hotmail, Yahoo, Juno, or any number of other freely available email accounts. Our experience is that these freely available email accounts are used by a number of fraudulent buyers and sellers, and if a freely available email address is the only one you want to provide us with then you may place a credit card on file with us so that we may verify your identity.
* If you want to use your Hotmail, Yahoo, or other freely available email account for your buying and selling, you can specify a freely available email address as your Alternate Email Address on the next web page. The Alternate Email Address is not verified and can be any type of email address.
* On the next screen, you will be asked if you would like to specify an Alternate Email Address. By specifying an Alternate Email Address, we will send ONLY the registration code and login information to your ISP Email Address and all other notifications will be sent to that Alternate Email Address. By specifying an Alternate Email Address, only that Alternate Email Address will be provided to successful buyers/sellers who request your contact information.
* Your email address is not shared with any third party company.
* If this email address is not correct, you will not be able to use this site. This email address is the one we will send your registration code and instructions to.

I've bought and sold about 20-30 guns on gunbroker and many on auctionarms as well. There are lessons to be learned - not all transactions have been perfect, but most of my experiences as a buyer have been satisfactory. I think it is important to read the ratings/comments about anyone you are dealing with before bidding. I also think you should seriously consider NOT dealing with new sellers and people that have no record at all.

Finally, don't assume anything - ask questions, even if they seem dumb. Some sellers know nothing about what they are selling. That means they may not be accurate in their description, including make and model. And they may have no clue about the condition. So you must ask and judge the answers based on whether they are reasonable and whether the seller is highly rated.
